Need help to find Tritium bezel pip/dot/pearl

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

As we all know, tritium vials went dark faster than the company claimed 12years or 25 years, it becomes unacceptable to me after around 7 years,
so I been busy trying to replace the faded-out tritium tubes for my watches, I got everything taken cared of, except the little pip/dot on the bezel:

it seems like a utility one, which used by many familiar brand names like Isobrite, Deep Blue, Hazard 4 and Tawatec

I managed to removed one from my ISObrite watch by force, it looks like a small chamber, ferromagnetism positive, so I think the main housing is made with stainless steel, there is a AR coated sapphire window on the top, and the bottom is opened, it's 2.3mm in diameter, got a tiny small tritium vial insalled inside horizontally, (probablely 1.6 x 0.5 mm)and I assume this piece is sold by the tritium suppliers as a compeleted part, should be very easy to come aroud.

but after weeks serching on the internet, I can't find it anywhere, not on google, ebay history, not even on WUS forum or DWC... Can anybody point me to a place where I could buy a pip easily?

I know it's a weired request, but I've seen stranger things get sorted with your help 😄

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply! No Im looking for the exact same pip, the one with a small glass window on top and tiny little tritium inside, like I showed in the picture, not planning on replace it with ordinary lume pip unless it’s a deadend

    • On a different post we were discussing units of measurements. Not wanting to highjack the post, I  thought we could discuss here.  What is the origin of Dennison's. @Waggyonly one lecturer insisting on units of measurement, all mine did.
    • I used to have a lecturer during my Engineering classes who was always beating a drum about quoting units, I remember one day he was so exasperated with our class he said "quote your units!!!!...I don't care what units JUST QUOTE THEM!!!" My next assignment I calculated the velocity and quoted the units, something along the lines of: "Thus the velocity of the body will be 0.00345 furlongs per fortnight" He graded my work as an F, then crossed it out and gave me an A+, turns out he had a sense of humor after all.
    • Just to add to what @Neverenoughwatches says, the impulse jewel on the balance wheel is also held in by shellac, so avoid exposing the assembly to IPA as well - as stated the one-dip and generic tetrachloroethylene equivalent is safe with shellac so you can use this for your pallet fork and balance assembly. I agree, but worth noting that IPA readily soaks up water, even from the atmosphere: "IPA exposed to the air will absorb moisture rapidly until it reaches an equilibrium value of 65% IPA to 35% water." So you need to refresh it regularly.
    • The width is otherwise known as mainspring height and strength as thickness for us more modern guys.
    • I've remembered something I had forgotten.  I've come across Dennison before but forgot all about it as I'm never going to use the units.  Maybe we should start a  thread on obscure units of measurement.
