Vintage Truing Tool

Recommended Posts

I got this in a small lot of tools i was after another tool in the lot so this maybe a bonus if its in working condition, i know it's a truing tool but how do i use, it as two sets of pins, the top ones have pivot holes, the bottom pins are pointed, what are the second set of pointed pins for, it functions like a set of pliers, that's about all i know about it, i managed to find a bergeon number 1885 for it but no instructions.

    • hi watchweasol,  I probably called it by the wrong name, I called it jumpstart but I think its just shorting I have posted my query in the safezone forum I am hoping its a simple fix, otherwise its sending to seiko to fix. thanks from England voith
    • watch repair is all about practicing
    • what happened to the old spring? according to the website below no parts are available but they do give a mainspring listing not sizes unfortunately. Then taking that number to the home page looks like it's available cheaper than eBay. http://cgi.julesborel.com/cgi-bin/matcgi2?ref=PP_10-200 http://www.julesborel.com/s.nl/it.A/id.27029/.f because I was curious about the number I found up above I looked at bestfit online. Here's what I found out that looks like it's the right number unfortunately because it's an original spring we don't get any dimensions.
    • After trials and tribulations, I got the balance spring working! Now I can move on to the disassembly. There's something preventing the watch from running. I suspect it was dropped and that messed up the hairspring.
    • I haven't been keeping a written log or hall of shame, but I can tell you that my early attempts to unwind mainsprings have resulted in two barrel arbors entering the ionosphere. Still MIA. I've launched but subsequently found incabloc and trior springs, a few yoke springs, and a third barrel arbor, but those first two remain elusive. (and one was from a ST36... not a small piece of metal, really)
