Headstock Maintenance of a Marshall Little Giant

Recommended Posts

Hi All -- I've surfed the forum and realized how important it is to ask first, do second.  I just picked this Marshall at an estate sale and want to do some basic maintenance.  Do I need to strip down the headstock?  It seems to run smoothly, albeit a bit sluggish.  If I do, how do I knock out the bearings? or can I bypass that step?   I've posted some pics in the intro forum if you want to see lathe itself.  Thanks for any advice or points to resources.

Figured it out.  Finally found the set screw in the cone pulley assembly and voila the spindle popped out.  Had a short scare when I lost the index pin in my garage, but fortunately was able to find it amongst the plentiful detritus of garage floor.  Lubed it up with some synthetic sae 5w 30.  Anything else I should do while I'm in there.
