Greetings Fellow WRT members,

My wife has handed me an Elgin pocket watch in a Dueber case. This is a family "heirloom" (even if not of great monetary value).

I am a hobbyist watchmaker - but have never worked with pocket watches.

I am sure there are a number of differences - and the first major one that I see is: "how to uncase a pocket watch movement".

Can someone point me in a good direction for information on this?

The particulars for this watch are:

Elgin movement serial # 3084198

(and according to what I found on the Internet)

Grade 95

Size 6

Jewels 7

Year 1889

Class 52 (not sure what this means?)

Model 1

Gold Gilded finish

Going Barrel

18,000 BPH

The case is a Dueber. Case # 1054037. The case is gold in color - and I suspect gold filled - as I don't see any marks indicating gold purity.

The movement looks to be in good condition - no significant discoloration or obvious signs of abuse. The balance will move - but doesn't want to tic.

I would like to see if I can bring this watch back to life. But I'll need some reference material to know how to properly uncase this thing before I can get a good look.

Thanks in advance for any assistance (and taking the time to read).

Kind Regards,

-Paul

Just FYI - I have managed to uncase the watch and now working on service and repairs.

I received the needed info from the NAWCC forums - so, all the info is there.

May post a summary here when I'm finished.

Kind Regards,

-Paul
