Been servicing a Vacheron Cal 1001 but have come across a problem I've not seen before.

The mainspring has a standard tongue end, but in addition there is a seperate brace which needs inserting just before the end of the mainspring with tongues that insert into slots in the barrel and cover, so that it forces the end of the mainspring against the barrel wall.

For the life of me I can see how to insert this, as its impossible once the mainspring is back in the barrel.

Here's a pic of a similar one for another vacheron calibre.

Anyone seen this or got any bright ideas?s-l500.jpg
