I have a girard perregaux gyromatic that I got from my grandfather recently but the battery is very old and turns off occasionally and I have been trying to get the back off in various ways to no avail can someone please help?

Welcome to the forum.

Can you post some photos showing the back along with some side views.

Edit

Just realised it's an Automatic so doesn't have a battery.

It needs movement or possibly winding with the crown (depending on the movement inside) to work.

Oh so that is why it is gyromatic so if I don’t move it every once in a while it turns off? That seems a tad bit redundant but kinda cool thanks so much

Try winding with the crown.

That will teach me to read the post properly.

Let's see the dial.

I expect you should be able to wind it by hand with the crown and then when wearing it the 'gyromatic' part keeps it topped up, for want of a better phrase.
