When holidaying in London once a year I wear a cheap Casio digital this is to avoid being stabbed, shot, mugged or having acid thrown in my face and being run down in the street by moped gangs.

I don’t blame you. London has become a shithole.

The same can be said of most large western cities.I used to live in suburban NY.It was a nice place until they decided to be a sanctuary state for illegal aliens, and the next town over became an MS 13 gang strong hold. I Now live in rural North Carolina, I don't have to sleep with my mauser next to the bed, and there are no tall buildings that people might want to crash a plane into.

I think this might hit the mark, being both inexpensive enough to take on holiday, and interesting enough to warrant actually wearing. AsPurchased.thumb.jpg.7ee7169674a376d97fa703b59e20708e.jpg

Its heading my way from that well known Yorkshire fishing village Eee-bay, (don't expect my jokes to get any better than that or you will be disappointed).

Another potential member of the 404 club, assuming I get it working of course, membership is strictly limited to the living rather than the dead. It just squeezed in to the aspiring members list with five pence to spare.

I still haven't had a chance to search locally here holidaying in India for a potential sibling for it, but if I do, I'll be sure to let you all know.

Well here's something I am currently investigating..not wishing to cast aspersions on the hmt watch...in most cases they have a reputation for being severely worn and poorly serviced...however they do have a stainless steel case which gives excellent service....on the other hand you have the caravelle by bulova...which has practically an identical Japanese version of the same movement.they are generally not worn out and unmolested...however they have a shoddy pot metal case.I think it possible to put a caravelle 11dp in an hmt case and very a very nice very serviceable watch.possibly the ultimate vacation watch.....keeping in line with this thread!

From what I've seen and read, the HMT movements are fairly robust. As to being worn and poorly serviced, the same could sadly be said for a lot of, if not most older mechanical watches these days. Sadly very few people take the time, or spend the money necessary to keep a watch clean, services, and in good repair. If you want a new HMT automatic, however, you can still pick them up from the HMT site (at the time of writing this). As I understand it, they are slowly running out of parts to build these watches, so now would be the time to to acquire one.

I do agree that most of the HMT watches you see on ebay, are likely to fit the description of severely worn, and poorly serviced, but there are occasional gems to be found.

The day I finished watchmaking was the day I gave up wearing a watch. I don't have any watches in my home.

But you’re not telling the whole story. You may not have a wristwatch but you pull a trolley with you wherever you go that has a long case clock on it...

    • The entry jewel's not as bad but seems still too much lock. I do epilame the escape wheel and pallet jewels, then run dry for about 15 minutes, then put 9415 in exit jewel very little at a time and check with backlight how the oil's distributed.  Another question is about capped escape wheels. Should I somehow wear the epilame off the pivots before installing the wheel? I normally let the escape wheel run dry for that said 15 minutes when there's no cap jewel.
    • Sometimes there's a certain place under the bezel where the case knife is supposed to be placed. In this borrowed pic there's a small crack at 3 o'clock.
    • Hi my fellow forum addicts, I'm writing this as I seem to have a hole in my knowledge (probably one of many!) I seem to have a horrible time removing bezels from watches. I am talking about the rotating type on sports/diving watches. I see many videos where the guy on screen barely inserts the case knife under the bezel and with no effort it pops off easily, then at the end it clicks back into place by hand with no effort. I am sure that part of this is due to skillful video editing, but I seem to wrestle with them, I have tried case knives and  even when using the tool below, I tighten it up in several positions and nothing happens. On a many occasions I have even warped the bezel in my attempts to remove it. Similarly, I have issues replacing bezels after cleaning etc. and often they have to be replaced using a press tool and inevitably are far too tight and will not rotate or loose to the point where they fall off or loose their click (perhaps due to micro warping when I tried to remove??). It is now to the point where I am actually avoiding watches with bezels as my success rate with them is terrible......please help!! In short I am asking: What am I doing wrong? What is the best method for removing bezels - how do you do it? What is the best method for replacing bezels - how do you do it? Any tips or tricks? Thanks
    • Amplitude still seems low, but I'm going to let it run in a bit and revisit. Meanwhile, got the first layer of the calendar works together and made sure the date ring snaps to both in quickset and regular setting. The mechanism is pretty cool, so I took a video.
    • This is the part that need replaced if anyone can point me in the right direction.
