I must say i am guilty for  asking questions on other forums and then not going in there again. I think all have done that sometimes?  As an example i asked about my car that had a fault i couldn't figure out. So posted on a Renault forum. But as i don't know that much about tinkering with cars i don't post a lot there after that . Am i a bad Renault forum member because of that?

auto word correction does not always make the correct choice.  and besides English is my second language.

Would so enjoy going up to Toronto as it has been a very long time since I was last there.  Our company had an office some where on Jay Street I recall.

It's difficult being a moderator on a forum like this dealing with everyone from the professional, through the hobbyist down to the complete amateur who's broken their watch and wants one-off advice or sometimes, frankly, is too lazy to spend more than the 30 seconds it takes to use google to find their answer so just pops it on our forum.

I'd like to say a personal thanks to  @oldhippy for his hard work and good advice and certainly we don't want you stepping down as a moderator! Some of the changes suggested here, such as a waiting period for new members is a good idea. Heck ... there could even be a nominal joining fee. A few dollars for good advice is nothing for someone who is serious about repairing a watch (even as a one off topic on a treasured watch) or wants to turn their current interest into a hobby or more. This would also not only help with the upkeep of the site but dissuade chunks of that chaff.  Just an idea.

The software can direct newly registered member to introduction and proccess posting after introduction is made. That saves OH  time to spend diagnosing faults which will greately upgrades the forum technically to even better standard.

I don,t know why can,t members trade or sell parts even watches they come to need once their watch faults are diagnosed and pay a fee to the forum once a sale is made. A sister site , there is got to be a legal route to that. 

I think OH and other well experienced members are the true assets of this forum and should step up not down.

Evertime I googled watch related keywords, watchrepairtalk come up among others. List of parts and watches certainly moves the name up the google list paving the way to popularity of the site, hence,to advertise in.

I find it rediculous that of all people ,smart moderators and business minded folks, I am talking business viability. I can,t even speak correct English, so.

As an administrator on another forum (totally unconnected with watches), I say the admin team here do a great job in making this a friendly forum.

My philosophy tends to lean towards achieving an end goal rather than hard and fast rules, but without losing sight of the principles. Common decency and manners should always prevail but sadly in today's modern world it does not happen. Correcting bad manners should not be a task for the admin team alone.

As Mark says, trolls and spammers are an everyday menace on the net. It is easier to control on my forum because it is for UK residents only so we reject any applications from abroad.

I think the members on this forum are as tolerant and helpful as any I've seen. They do not talk down to those with a lesser skill base as on other forums. However I do believe people should do some research of their own before asking the most basic of questions. There is a lot of information in the public domain which is extremely helpful. I am a new member who is trying to take my interest to the next level, but because of this is it is difficult for me to make helpful contributions as everyone is more skilled than I am. I have an incessant desire for knowledge and even if a subject is not particularly relevant to me, I still enjoy reading and gaining that knowledge.

Forums to me are a place of exchanging knowledge and it seems to me there is a great set of members here who are willing to pass it on . Can anybody ever know it all? Well as my old Dad used to say ''there is only one thing worse than somebody who thinks they know it all - somebody who does know it all …….

I enjoy helping and finding answers for the members on here, no matter if it’s a simple or hard question With around 30 years’ experience in the field of watch and clock making it helps me to use my brain, even if I can’t remember what I did last week, as I have short time memory loss due to a very mild stroke about 3 years ago.

Hi,  I was blessed with a stroke eight years ago and I have enjoyed every moment of it.

Thanks partially  to herbal medcine, I have been relaxed enough to learn enjoying and thats a blessing I wont let the social norms define or ruin for me.

All the modifications have now been made. I have made the welcome email more clear and I have made it clear on the Q&A forum that many members will consider it a politeness if people introduce themselves to the community first before diving in.

Thank you for everybody participating in this thread and to @Endeavor for starting the discussion, some great ideas have been put forward and I hope we have set a workable system in place.
