Is 2824 H4 closest to 2892 H3?

Hi,

I have a dial that was removed from a 2892 which I believe it has a H3 cannon pinion. So I want to put that dial to a 2824 and I'd like to change the stock 2824 cannon pinion (which I believe is a H2) to one which is the closest to the 2892 H3. I can't just put the 2892 movement into the case as that case is meant for the 2824 and it would require modification like a new retaining ring for it to fit. According to a data sheet provided by ETA, in the 2892 data sheet, the table under the french word "Depassements" (I assumed it's referring to Height over dial seat), for H3 the hour wheel is 1.30mm, cannon pinion is 1.70mm and seconds wheel is 2.10mm. In the 2824 data sheet, the table under Height over dial seat for H4, the hour is 1.45mm, cannon pinion is 1.85mm and seconds wheel is 2.25mm. I'm considering either H3 or H4 but it seems that the 2824 H3 is lower than the 2892 H3. Hence I couldn't come to a conclusion and need some advice. Thanks!

I note you haven't had a reply yet so here's some interim input...

From my quick research the 2892 came with a variety of cannon pinion heights: 1.75, 1.90, 2.15, 2.40, 2.65, 2.90, 3.65. Likewise the 2824 at 1.80, 1.95, 2.20, 2.45, 2.75, 2.95, 3.20.

You refer to an H3 at 1.70 but this doesn't seem to tie up and implies there are also two missing sizes below this which doesn't sound plausible.

Perhaps just concentrate on the physical heights which only differs by fractions of a mm between models and on the basis of accurately measuring your 2892  go for the size above in the 2824.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The figures which I've provided for the H3 was from the Height over dial seat table or "Depassements". The actual length for the 2824 H3 are as follow:2.45mm,1.50mm,5.32mm as for the 2892 H3 are 2.40mm, 1.50mm, 5.11mm. So can I check so what you meant was that I should use the actual length rather than the figures from the dial over seat table right? Thanks!
