Is it possible to customize these springs from Cousins?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, sorry for the silly question...

I (and probably many others who got scrap venus movements to practice) got a venus 170 missing a specific spring, part 8320 coupling clutch spring. These are expensive and /or rare. But on the other hand, CousinsUk sell an intriguing pile of springs. Are these meant to be formed into whatever you need? And if not, who would buy such a generic product? d35eb5dccc4291255a963342e4bb037b.png&key=7e51a88a2adb683969c5865eee6b76684c361e2d63db5f4c555fedb2565ff2cd

Do you think the cousins springs could be used to replace the 8320 part?

The amount of these little devils I had must have been hundreds. Some can be manipulated into what you need. The strength and height can play an important part. The trouble with all assortments they never or really contain what you need. A good place to look is on ebay. If you can afford to buy up what you can, because these things tend to fly all over the place. I have spent hours in my time down on my knees sweeping the floor.

If i remember correct that 8335 spring is pretty thick. I don't think that any of the cousisnuk spring is in that diameter. Maybe easier to make one from music wire? But you probably need the old one to replicate. Doing one from scratch should be hard?

Thank you oldhippy, bsoderling and rogarth, I had no idea these things could be fiddled with. Very interesting, but only experienced people would know which one to use. I Will try to grab an original to start with, and try to replicate it, with this inexpensive stuff.
