Hi all.

I'm servicing a EAT 2824-2 movement I bought of an auction website. There was no stem and I took a gamble.

While waiting for it to arrive I ordered a new generic stem, and assumed it should fit.

Taking the keyless works apart, I could see the remains of the original stem still in situ.

Comparing the original to the replacement, they are different across the flats. The original is 0.51mm. The replacement is 0.74mm and will not fit the sliding and winding pinion.

Does anyone know where I can source an original with 0.51mm across the flats?

Sure it's a 2824-2 . Think 2836 has helicoidal stem? Otherwise i think 2763 has a helicoidal stem. But don't know if it has 0,51. Think i could have one so i could measure.

Thanks,

Just looked at the movement, it's ETA 2824. Looks like it's Elabore spec and is off a Technos watch.

I think the measurement across the flats is supposed to be 0.50mm.

The stem for the 2824 is helicoil square. But i think you bought a 2824-2 stem?

So you need a 2824 stem . My mistake there also.  It's not a 2824-2  it's only  2824 .

My mistake. It is indeed a 2824. So I'm after a 2824 helicoil stem.

Lol!

I remember replacing one of these some time ago with a square one that I had to file down in the lathe. I thought some gorilla had twisted it, and remember being puzzled that no teeth in the setting path were destroyed. Good thing this is one of my own watches! I still have the old stem, so it goes back on the todo list ;)

I'd never heard of a helical stem until you mentioned it!  What could be the purpose of it? Perhaps to increase pressure on the setting wheel, when setting the hand? Doesn't seem worth the more difficult production process. I'm assuming the sliding pinion is also helical?

(Sorry, kinda off-topic)

The twisted stem for ETA 2824 ( not ETA 2824-2 ) is obsolete and very hard to find.  We sold out many years ago.  A simple and cheap solution is to change the stem, winding pinion and clutch wheel, all to the 2824-2 parts.

Thanks for the tip.

I managed to source one:-

51.010.51 specified for the following

ETA 2802 2804 2806 2824 2826 2828 2830 2834

It'll be interesting to see if it fits.

    • @Murks the problem you have mate is most watch cases out there to buy are for Seiko NH3X, ETA 2824 and maybe Myota 8XXX movements, oh also the big ETA 6978/9 movements which the dials start around 28.5mm. You might find one on a Google search but I suspect your main chance will be buying cheap quartz ladies watches and hopefully find one of the right size and condition that is acceptable. 😞   Tom
    • The anchor pin should be perpendicular when the anchor is sat on a flat surface and if you post a close up picture of the backplate I will be able to tell you the correct torsion spring , running fast or slow is usually wrong Torsion spring. Here is a video from my YouTube channel showing how I set the beat
    • I think if you want to play Billy big b.ollocks then you have to have something up your sleeve, anyone that knows how to fight, plays dirty. Lets face it a lot of folk that voted for Brexit just rolled uk their sleeves to say up yours EU hoping for good changes. We have idiots for leaders and probably none of them clever enough to clean the shitty stick they were given. I didnt vote, what will be will be. You've signed up to another forum !!! Why you defector , you snake in the grass, you infidel consider yourself shunned.... you.......you........you CAD  😅😅😅😅😅😅🤪
    • I voted leave too, my reasoning was the the EU is undemocratic, no elected officials. I don't regret it but I  am sad that both sides acted like petulant toddlers.  Shameful.  I'm not on other forums but if I was and left this site, would you shun me? Of course not, we aren't petulant toddlers.
    • This is a type of tool that may be suitable to remove the bezel - though note that I'm pretty sure the watch should be face down - not face up, as in some of the photos of these tools on amazon & ebay! If you try one one of those, put the movement screws back in first to avoid accidents. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Removal-Professional-Remover-Watchmaker-Diameter/dp/B09XCH4QVN?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&smid=A296NCMMFVXSDN&th=1
