Need help on Mainspring

Recommended Posts

Hello watch repairers.

I have been working on vintage caliber Unitas 6325.

Since it was my second time with the movement, I did not have any trouble servicing it.

But I made a mistake when fitting  barrel arbor to the mainspring and disaster happened when I tried to wind it up after assembly.

The spring made cracking sound and I found broken mainspring upon opening up the barrel.

The end tip where arbor is fitted was bent as arbor was released from the mainspring when I tried to wind it up.

To reshape the tip, I bent it the other way and it chipped off.

I think I should replace the mainspring but I wanted to know if there is any chance of making this mainspring usable may be by modifying it.

Any opinion is welcome. Thanks.

My advise is to replace it. You cannot play around with these types unlike to old ones. So you need to order using the cal number which you have Unitas 6325 from your supplier. Just make sure when it comes time to fit it you have the spring the correct way around.
