pocket watch pallet fork

Hey guys. A friend asked me why the pallet fork will jump to one side but not the other. Any thoughts. I figured magnetized but we struck out there.

I'd check the pallet stones.  If one is too long (perhaps loose) it won't release the tooth of the escape wheel.

Actually the other American pocket watches had adjustable banking pins.  I'm not sure exactly how it will come into play (other than affecting amplitude) but perhaps the pins are way out of alignment.  Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in here.

Hi with out a bit of history and a picture or two of the watch its guess work based on knowkedge.  Already mentioned is the banking pins, is it over banked  are the pallet jewels intact, missing or loose. as you can see there are variables, so a little more information please
