What type of movement holder is this?

Looks handy.  The holder opens when the spring loaded plunger is depressed and closes when released. This is vintage.  Is there something similar on the market now?

Makes me think that with these concave sides it will be able to throw the movement.t very high.

I see these on ebay all the time, looks like they would be for larger movements due to the curve of the jaws...not very stable looking imo...

You can have mine! It’s useless unless the radius of the movement is larger than the radius of the vice jaws. As already mentioned (in jest)it tends to behave like a mechanical watch movement ejecting machine if you’re not careful.
