Remove Friction Fit Hairspring

Recommended Posts

I need help with removing and then putting back in a hairspring that has a friction fit stud.  I know there is a special tool one can use for this purpose.  Does anyone have any pictures and know who might have made it?  Can anyone "walk me through" how to remove and replace a hairspring without using the tool?  Thanks!

These I must say are a pain in the bum to remove and even a bigger nuisance to re-fit. I have no pics but basically you have to push the stud out by supporting the stud arm using a staking set stump. I used the centre finding punch. Re-fitting is really fiddly. I placed the arm upside down with the stud hole over an appropriate hole on the staking tool plate and pushed the stud back in with a flat punch.

You have to be real carful that the hairspring is not damaged during the removal & re-fitting process.

PS best of luck
