Hello,

Glad to be part ot this community. Thanks for having me. Into watches. Seikos mainly. Vintage ones. Recently took it upon myself trying to bring some of them back to life. Not always successfully, but trial and error, is name of the game. So I've heard. Looking forward to chatting with you all about all things Seiko.

Cheers'

Hi Pip,

I have wide array of them. 6138, 6139, 6309 Classic turtle as well as slim case. I also have 7a28, 7a38, 7a48, 7002, 7549, and recently 7548. Latter is what I am trying to figure out. Second hand twitches with a new battery, so I am thinking there is life left. I also have mordern Seiko Divers. 62Mas reissue (SBDC051), and SRP lines as well as, SKX- 007, 011, and 171.

How about you?

Thank you everyone for a warm reception. Does any one here have Seiko very first diver's in Quartz? I used to run away from quartz, but 7548 is a marvel! Early '80s and bloody thing still ready to go. Just need some adjustments/ service. Everything else seems to be spot on. No battery leaks. Which can be a death sentence to a Quartz.

Wow! It sounds like you have an awesome collection! I love the 7Axx range, first watch I ever properly tinkered with was a 7A28 about a year or so ago. 6138/9 are generally fantastic in my book, 6309... 7549... wow what a collection! And I'd love a SLA017/SBDC051. What a watch!

I have a few 7Axx, a couple of Pogue's, another 6139, some 6309 non divers, some lcd, some 6119, some older stuff and some more modern pieces like other quartz, 007's & 777.

Oh, and I had a delivery from Japan yesterday which had three old Lordmatics, an old Lord Quartz and an old King Quartz. Popped a battery in the KQ and she started straight away, the LM's all tick (although one's day/date is not working) and I don't have the right battery for the LQ which reminds me I need to pop on to Cousins website now.

Where abouts in the world are you? I'm guessing UK for some reason? I'm in UK, in Berkshire.

    • Hello and welcome from Leeds.
    • Unfortunately I'm not that lucky. I started on the train side and after I noticed the binding I pulled everything out except the driving wheel to rule everything else out. It still binds. I'm going to double check that the pinion is fully seated on the staff first, then if no joy I'll push the bridge jewel up a fraction of a mm. Fingers crossed!
    • Happy to have helped, great way to start the day with a win! 🥳
    • Thank you for the advise!! It worked. The setting screw was a lock/unlock to remove the rotor.
    • I have that French tech sheet too, it is a little different than the English one (eg, it doesn't have the auto works diagram). BTW, it looks like you are looking up the case number in the 1979 ABC supplement. The 1974 ABC catalog does have the 3093 case. As you determined it takes the 1222-5 crystal.  When I serviced my President 'A' (which also takes that crystal), I was able to fit a 29.8 crystal from my DPA crystal assortment. Those are, in my opinion, a great deal. The assortment comes with 10 sizes each from 27.8mm to 32.4mm in 0.2 increments. I pretty much use them for any non-armored crystal that takes a high dome crystal. I think they no longer make them but Cousins has still has some in stock but when I bought them they were around $40 for the set and now they are around $100. Still, at 40 cents a crystal it's still a good deal. For the large driving wheel, I remember I once assembled the keyless/motion works first and when I placed the large driving wheel it was interfering with the setting wheel on the dial side as the teeth were not fully meshing and it wouldn't fully seat. If that isn't the issue I got nothing and am looking forward to see how you solve it 🙂
