2836-2 Casing

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am having a problem casing my 2836-2 movement. The case has a spacer because of the size difference. That part seems OK.

The main problem is the second hand pushed against the crystal when the caseback is tightened.

There are case screws and a ring to put on the movement but, I put it on, it doesn't fit in the spacer ring properly. It's also very hard to fit.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Dave

Are you assembling your own watch from spare part from here and there?

Then the onus is on you to resolve any impinging part and other issue, it may require fabrication and imagination. No ready recipe, sorry.

I was having problems with a casing kit for the 2836-2.

First, it wasn't made clear that placement of part 145, the ring that fits between the dial and movement, was absolutely necessary; it allows the day and date rings to turn freely.

Second, there was a spacer ring to go between the case and the movement supplied with it that didn't fit properly. I used some pieces of small rubber tubing as a spacer instead. I'm thinking that this fix isn't exactly good watchmaking technique but the watch works now and it didn't before, so...

Just thought I'd pass that along for anyone who is looking to case a 2836-2.

This was used by IWC in the sixties as a way of protecting movements from sudden shock I have a Yacht Club that uses 5 rubber blocks as spacers, it was also used by other watch makers so the idea must have some merit.
