Automatic winder help/explanation

Hi. Can somebody explain how this should work please . I understand the theory . The counterweight drives the off centre spindle pushing the arm to drive the gear wheel . But I can’t figure out how the arm drives the gear . No teeth , no ratchet . Friction ?

It might be the angle or light when the pic was taken but it looks like the wheel has some teeth damage. Suggest you inspect with a good loupe.

Not sure but it looks like the finger is upside down. Almost sure. If you have it like that it won't work.

Get the two arms on either side of the gear.. then manipulate the center bearing and see how all parts interact.
