Orex Watch Company

Recommended Posts

Maybe taking a trip to Romania with my brother next Summer and I of course am wondering what kind of watches I might find along the way. A quick online search cited Orex as a Romanian brand, but does that doesnt mean they were made there necesarily. What other brands might I expect to see as a visitor from the West?

Are you asking about local brands ? As far as I can remember there were a few watch and clock brands made locally, mainly during the communist period, but I believe the movements were either chinese/russian/german/japanese or they were license-built from chinese/russian/german/japanese movements.

I'm not sure whether any of them had romanian "inhouse" movements... Orex was by far the largest manufacturer so mostly it'll be just that one.

I see, well this is good information to have. I don't know how much time we will be in towns and shops, but either way I should brush up on my Romanian...and by brush up I mean start from scratch haha. Thanks for the info.

If you're looking for such watches you're only going to find them in antique shops or fairs, pretty much.
The people speak a bit of English usually. Is it a business trip ? Any particular cities ?
We aren't sure which particular cities we will visit, but I imagine we will see one on our way to the countryside. Heading out there for vacation.
