At least she looks comfortable. My daughter's cat 'Clive' regularly is bought round to us, it's sort of his second home. He manages to go to sleep in the most strange positions,

Yesterday I had to do my final duty for Lightning. She was laid to rest in the garden along side all my other departed cats. I’m sure the pain will become dull in good time but the memories will always be vivid of this intelligent and loving little creature.

How sad.  She was such a pretty girl.

Thank you for the kind compliment Mark. It’s incredible how a little cat can become such an integral part of your family. We are all missing her greatly. Time is is a healer, but we’ll never forget her.

What great names. They need a window each. How old are they? All the other cats are so lovely, you people are so lucky to have them.

Hadley on the left is about 7 while Winston is just about 2.

Hadley, for the writer Homer Hadley Hickam whose story of "Paco" convinced me to adopt a cat after some years without one and Winston, after Churchill.  We were asked to foster Winston for a month as the shelter was over burdened with kittens.  He exhibited some British Short hair characteristics.  Hence...

"Paco: The Cat Who Meowed In Space"  is a nice short read for Kindle users.  Heart warming and inspiring for cat lovers, it is also full of insider NASA information if one is interested in space travel.  Who could possibly not be!

Of course, no financial interest in Hickam on my part.  Just a fan.

Hi there oldhippy , I feel for you .You still have all those great memories that you will never lose .Grief is like the ocean ,it comes on waves ebbing and flowing ,sometimes the water is calm sometimes it is overwhelming .All we can do is learn to swim .You are very fortunate to have loved Cookie as many people have not unlocked that part of their soul.Take care and keep on keeping on

Meet Joey. I collected him on Friday from an owner who has four dogs. He really was not happy at home, feeling bullied by his canine cohabitants. 48 hours into his new abode and he seems to be settling in just fine. [emoji6]

As you can see, he is a ginger long hair, so we will both need to get used to a grooming regime. He’s like a little lion!

Life is beginning to feel better again with a cat in the home.

Thanks OH. He’s still a bit twitchy when he hears odd noises, but given time he will be just fine I’m sure.

He is four years old, and spent most of his life trying to escape from 4 dogs. He will be ok living with me..... so long as he stays away from my watch parts [emoji38]

Here are a few of ours enjoying the sunshine yesterday.

This is Basil, the neediest cat on the planet.

Daisy. Passionate about being outside, we struggle to keep her in even in the winter.

Mimi, Mickey's and Maisie's mum. She has the most enormous sense of fun and chases balls out in the garden like she was a dog.

    • Oh nice. I have a similar wedge style stump for my staking tool, so I'll give that a shot. Thanks!
    • Thank you all for the replies!  Very informative! True enough, the Gamsol took some time to evaporate and does leave a residue. So not all naphtha are created equal!  Need to find alternatives then. i was able to try Hexane recommended by Alex and it seems great.  I wonder what the cons are?
    • Yeah, I saw that in the tech sheet but I don't see how it can be adequately cleaned with the friction pinion still in place. I've accidentally pulled the arbor right out of the wheel once when I used a presto tool to try and remove it. Mark shows how he does it with the Platax tool. Those are a little too pricey for me so I got one of these from Aliexpress and I just push down on the arbor with the end of my brass tweezers. That usually gets it most of the way out and then I just grab the wheel with one hand the and the friction pinion with the other and gently rotate them until it pops off. Probably not the best way but it's seemed to work for me so far.
    • Thanks, Jon Sounds like a plan. Obviously I'll have the face on so do you think gripping with the holder will create any problems, but I will check in the morning to see how feasible it is but I assume it only needs to be lightly held. As for holding the movement instead of the holder won't be possible in this scenario as one hand will be puling on the stem while the other pushes the spring down. That was my initial concern is how the hell can I do this with only one pair of hands. All the other times I've had to remove the stem hasn't been a problem, apart from the force required to release the stem from the setting lever, but now I need to fit the face and hands its sent me into panic mode. If it had the screw type release things would be a lot simpler but that's life 😀   Another thing I will need to consider is once the dial and hands are fitted and the movement is sitting in the case I will need to turn it over to put the case screws in. I saw a vid on Wristwatch revival where he lightly fitted the crystal and bezel so he could turn it over, is this the only option or is there another method?
    • Hi Jon, do You think that relation spring torque - amplitude is linear? I would rather guess that the amplitude should be proportional to the square of the torque. I had once idea to check it, but still haven't.
