Stem doesn't engage in 2836 (chinese) movement

Recommended Posts

Today I removed the crown and stem to this 2836 (chinese) based watch. I had to replace a tube with a new one and fit a new crown.

Now, for some reason, the stem doesn't go back inside the movement. I tried and tried to jiggle bla bla and nothing.

Any clue?

That is a common problem with ETA 2824-2836 movement. Happens when you pull to fast out on the crown and hasn't pressed down the button enough or at the right time.  You take the clutch lever with you and dislodge it from the setting lever.

I believe for these movements the crown needs to be in the setting position before removal. Also you will notice the place where you push the stem release button has a slot, you are supposed to use a screwdriver that fits this slot so that you don't push it in too far.

Also when you have it out, check the set-lever spring for flatness, if it has been warped it will make things worse.
