Newbie Alert!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!  Newbie here.  My name is Ross and I live in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.  My experience with watches extends to changing the batteries in my and my families watches, shortening up watch bands and that's about it.  I've ordered and received a bunch of starter tools to begin my exploration of watch repair and I look forward to being able to tap this huge resource that everyone is kind enough to share.  It's wonderful that people choose to share their knowledge with us newbies and I wish I could reciprocate.  I'm an electronics technician, some forty years at that, currently working in industrial wire marker printer repair.

Thanks to everyone for sharing!

And a belated welcome from me - collector and very amateur tinkerer.

Thanks Will and may I just say you have a very impressive website.

I seem to gravitate to pocket watches for some reason and the selection you have is truly amazing.  Could it be that they are larger and therefore easier to work on?

I'm going to start on your "The Mechanism" page as it looks like a good place to start and I've got the recommended book "Practical Watch Repairing" on order.

Cheers,

There's no doubt that size 16s pocket watches are easier to work in visual terms and size terms - they're probably equally irritating in repair terms, sometimes!

If you spot anything on my watch pages which is unclear, confusing or just plain wrong, do let me know.

Cheers,

Will

Thank you, I think I'll need it and I feel sorry for the first few watches I find to work on.

You know, I have to say the YouTube Channel "Watch Repair Channel" I found this blog through is absolutely amazing in the scope that your videos cover.

My wife has to remind me to go to bed in the evening and usually has to swipe the remote and shut off the TV that I seem to always have your video's streaming on.

I am truly in awe...
