Bulova Royal Clipper....
I have recently started to gather some watches in the Bulova " Clipper " series . These watches are very affordable and have a Classic look in both round and rectangle shapes .  I really am not sure how many different clippers there are because I am seeing a different clipper name all the time such as Jet Clipper , American , Sun , Sea ,  Golden , Midnight , Ocean , etc............
From what I gather from ongoing research , the Clippers are 17 jewel , but none have a clipper designation on the dial .
This model is called the Royal Clipper and is identifiable by the contrasting quadrant shades . I picked it up on the bay for a small price and it was advertised as having been cleaned and serviced , the crystal refinished , and a new strap .  I knew that the dial looked like it had the measles .
When I got it I had to clean up an excess of lube on the movement , replace the cracked crystal , replace the paper thin cheap strap , and lume the hands because the lume was practically not there . The case back was over polished and showed all the imperfections also . I also took a chance on cleaning up the dial .

I took the liberty of adding a couple of pics from the internet to show what the dial looks like....

And the watch....

Yeah , I cheated and hi-lighted the dial . You couldn't see the quadrants very well ,....and it looks better in person ,..honest .
You can't lie to the camera .

Maratac GPT-2 with a Miyota 9015 movement. After regulating it with what I learned here it's keeping time dramatically better than what it was.

It's really nice to be able to regulate yourself. Unless the movement is of superb quality and has little variations between different positions, it really matters as the watch could behave differently to different lifestyles.

took the boss out today, second time in a year, trying to keep the original enamel, well, original!

You hardly see this Elgin Direct Reading from 1957 with the crest not buffed off the face and you might see one with the red enamel maybe once a year but still having the blue enamel is a rare event!

Today I'm wearing this BWC with a Landeron 248. Case, crown, pushers, dial and hands are in terrible condition, but I bought it some weeks ago to service my first chronograph. It was dead on arrival and now it runs well, even the chronograph functions.

Nice story with this: I had a lot of trouble with the minute counter which didn't switch and stopped the watch. As I work as an engineer in the automotive industry, I'm always thinking about geometrical problems. So I spent about 10 hours working on the eccentrics and the jumper to find the correct setting but didn't get it. In the end the solution was dirt in the bearing of the minute counter which caused too high friction. When I told this to my girlfriend she couldn't stop laughing. "Well, you may be a pro in geometrical affairs but cleaning is not your cup of tea." I have really no idea why she said that... B)

Got this gmt for £74 off Amazon.
It's not that bad . 300m water resistant and fitted with a TY2846 movement. Not upto eta or seiko but not too bad with a 35 second variation on one position but 5 others with less than 20 seconds. Amplitude a bit on the low side.ca65e21a93d3231d09ac4352cd0c03b3.jpg2738432ccf61e126f599409a6076d5ad.jpg

Hi guys! It's been a long time since I've posted here.... I plan on checking in a little more often..

Here's my latest creation that I'm wearing today. I designed the dial after a current Hamilton Khaki model... I posted a picture of the printing plate too!

    • In the meantime whilst awaiting a better plan, please drop me a quick hello on my email.
    • I looked at it like this, I've built a lot of stuff in my time, building structures and furniture, those are my creations and they will still be here way way after I'm gone. Traditional watchmakers felt the need to pass their knowledge on, ideas that they created . I assume with them as it is with me, leaving their mark on the earth, a way of being remembered. This creation of Mark's has brought thousands of people together to pass their knowledge around,  ideas that will continue to be used for lifetimes. Ideas that should continue to be procured. If for whatever reason the forum ceased to exist, not quite like Ranfft's, that didn't disappear but much less usable. Then that is sad, such a massive loss of communication between good people and a wealth of knowledge lost. There should be something in place for when that happens which could be next week, next year or in 10 years. Might not be a topical subject for a lot of folk or boardering on controversy, i did say i talk about stuff other people dont. But if you dont talk about it and something happens then you've lost it and you ain't gonna fix it .
    • I've remained silent on this thread, and at the risk of upsetting everyone, the thing that worries me the most the the apparent absence of Mark. The moderators do a great job and the members also pitch in, and the site seems to run itself, but it is a concern for the future of this forum when the owner is absent for all intents and purposes. Like many of the comments above I would hate to log in one day and things be closed down as I rely on this site for ideas and knowledge and also cheer me up. maybe the Moderators could reach out to him, assuming he does not read this thread, and express our concerns and let us know the plans going forward? some kind of WRT ark
    • That was the exact reason for me starting this thread watchie. Still we haven't worked out how the regulars are going to hook up if it goes tits up. I honestly think something should be arranged to stay in contact, we all help each other so much.
    • Yeah ive watched that a few times before,  i couldnt find my old school dividers to scribe it up 😅 Yep thats the guy i bought a roll from . Thanks Nicklesilver that answers that perfectly and more or less what i thought an experiment over time would prove . The jumper arm is quite thick along its length, i left it that way intentionally, i thought the original was probably very thin, i didnt see that it was already missing. Setting isn't particularly stiff as such just positive, i still need to take it out and polish where it mates with the stem release.
