Today I barely managed to resist the urge to don my ten gallon hat and chaps and head off to the pub with no beer

The "Rodeo" is getting a ride round the range on my wrist today.

It is actually pretty well behaved in terms of keeping time. That mystery 17 jewel french movement performs about -10 to +15 s/day hovering near 0.3 ms and managing a fairly healthy 287 degrees of swing at 21600bph.

The bizarre transparent burgundy case sometimes makes it appear that the crown is backlit by an LED.

A strange but interesting addition to the 404 club collection.

7A28-7040? Got one of those in Hong Kong back in '83.still have it.but it isn't running.
Yup. Dec '82 so quite an early one.
Unfortunately got just the head. It's on a SS bracelet I got off eBay for £10.
It went off with a few others to George Clarkson in Berlin to perform his magic.

Is this a fancy watch branded? I mean, I haven't heard the brand Depraz anytime before. So I was just wondering if that's genuine with good quality.

The D logo looks like an old font used by sports company Donnay [emoji1]

"Depraz" name looks to have been registered in 23/05/1986

I searched Depraz a few weeks ago and could not find any reference. There was an ad on ebay for a watch. It was priced £10 and did not sell.

I found a lot of ref to Dubois-Depraz which if I remember right was more of a high end movement. So I came to the conclusion it was a cheap knock off. Can't confirm that though.

I think it is all ceramic. I believe the term is "Fat Lava".

This has apparently become collectible, so if you have any garish pottery from the period, you may find it is worth more than you thought.

Incidentally, some of the glazes used contain uranium, which is unsurprisingly, mildly radioactive, so grab a nice red or green example, and you have something to store all that used radium and tritium lume in. Collect enough and you can get yourself on an international "watch" list of an entirely different sort.

I did a full service on a 70's Depraz a few weeks ago.

Details on my blog if anyone is interested.

Thank you Marc. That's more info than I found.

So it is a separate company to Dubois Depraz but not a copy
