Building My New Watch Repair Workshop.

Well that was painful - just purchased the High Density Laminate for the worktops. Came in at £180 inc. delivery for 2 sheets @ 3000x1300mm

This is the colour I went for:

I have decided to not raise the units to height as I have a better idea, will post more details if it pans out.

Good green, Ikea sell the large 2mm thick clear surface protectors in case you wanted something to tide you over.

EDIT - My bad, just read you order the laminate, I thought they were wood lol

Where did you order it from Mark?  I have several of those green mats on my benches, but ideally I want to cover the entire surfaces with the same stuff and the only place I could find that sold the large sizes I needed were in the US.

Micky,

I managed to find this company which specialise in retail shop outfitting:

http://www.morland-uk.com/shop/shop-fit-out/laminate-sheets/egger-hpl-laminate-u628st15.html

It's expensive stuff but I think it's worth it.

There are many Youtube videos showing how to apply it using contact adhesive.

Hi Mark, my LED light arrived today from Cousins, and I'm very impressed with it. It has two rows of LEDs that can be independently selected, dimmed and are controlled with a master on/off switch. The intensity when on full is incredibly bright. I can certainly recommend it for your new workshop. The photo doesn't really do it justice.

Well that was good quick service from Moreland. The laminate arrived this morn.

I better finish my worktop cuts but frustratingly I have to finish some real work, two sea masters and a speed master on the bench.

Hi Geo, What about the light color of the leds? I always toughed that the daylight lamps gave a more pleasant light color to work with.

Colour temperature is listed at 6000 to 7000K, this equates to daylight. On full intensity it is so bright that instead of setting my camera at 800ASA, I now set it at 200ASA and can use a shutter speed of 350 to 500 which allows me to hand hold the camera easily without getting shake problems.

I have been using the light for a couple of days now and it is easy on the eyes, especially with the dimming facility.

The shipping cost cousins is charging is really ridiculous.

The bench light costs 74£ and the shipping is another 63£!

I have ordered a lot of stuff from cousins, mostly watchparts & small tools. For these items the shipping costs is reasonable.

But for this case it just makes no sense.
