Seiko 7S26 - How Much Of A Problem Is A Loose Rotor?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently bought an SKX011 in a new condition. I noticed that when I put it next to my ear and I quickly move it away and back to my ear, there is some play in the rotor. I tried different ways to make sure it is only the rotor that is loose, and it definitely is. I am in no way confused between the sound of the rotor when it rotates and the sound of the play in the rotor. I heard that this issue is frequently encountered on 7S26 movements, but is it normal?

Pop the back off and have a look. Check the rotor screw is not loose and tighten if reqd. If this doesn't work check to see if the rotor is touching the caseback or movement or has any degree of play. If this is the case you will need to replace the rotor, which are readily available through most of the material houses normally listed as 'Oscillating Weight, Seiko 509.184' priced about £10. These are stamped 7S26B but will fit the 7S26A and most other 7XXX series movements.
