An Acrylic Clock

Like you I particularly like the project, especially the way the chapter ring rotates and is held in place by gravity.

It's just a pity about the broken tooth on the escape wheel.

Yes - I bet he was right peeved when that happened!

The Wood Whisperer posted a wooden clock on YT as well which was absolutely fantastic. But I don't think he made it - it was a friend of his or something.

Magical Clocks are fun to watch and figure out. I came across an unusual clock at the Cabin Fever Expo in York, Pennsylvania. I setup a table to sell my dvd's and in the distance I saw what I thought was a acrylic clock but on closer examination it was a skeleton clock with magnetic wheels.

Advance the video to about 3.5 minutes in

Video was taken after the show was over which explains the lack of people. Several thousand modelers swamp the show everyday.

Wood as a material for clocks was what was originally used for town clocks though out Europe. However it's not the best material to use and cast wheels followed. On our drive back from Italy last year we stayed in a fishing town called Chioggia which is near Venice. It is just like Venice but without the tourist rates. In Chioggia is one of the oldest surviving Wood (Approx 1386) constructed clocks with a clock museum attached. The dial is in a sunburst style with one hand to show the time of day.

The wood gearing is now behind perspex to preserve them. However we arrived on a Monday but the museum & clock are only open on a Sunday so the pics are just off the internet.

I've been wanting to make one of those wooden gear clock kits for awhile.  I'm a big fan of the Wood Whisperer.
