balance staff repair

Can someone tell me the correct tool to use to restaff a balance wheel on a vintage pocket watch. Should I do it right on the staffing tool anvil or should I use a stump. What would be the best way without bending the balance wheel? Thanks

This might help. You might have to improvise if you don't have the kit, but it gives you a good idea of what's required.

I always used a staking tool in the same way as Mark, that way you have complete control and cannot distort the balance wheel.

I use Mark's technique as well and have had very good results

I used his technique on a vintage Longines 18.79 cal. and it worked beautiful.
