FHF 908 Balance adjustement

Hi,

I'm new to collecting and repairs, so this may seem like a daft question. I am in the process of reassembling a FHF908 movement (bought cheaply on ebay) and noticed that the impulse jewel was misaligned. I looked at a video online and thought I could perhaps do the alignment myself. However when I looked at it I was expecting to see a slot in the collet that I could use a screwdriver on. What I found was more like a circle with two flat edges, a bit like a rounded triangle (sorry I couldn't take  a picture with my phone as it doesn't give enough detail). Any ideas on how to adjust this?

Hello your impulse jewel should lay centrally between the pallet banking pins when the watch is at rest. You should be able to adjust your hairspring to get the adjustment you need have seen Marks vid it explains it very well.

Thanks for your response. I have watched mark's video which was great for another watch but the collet on this balance looks different and doesn't have a slot for the screwdriver. I didn't know if there was another tool I had to use.

I don't know of a tool not when I worked. What I would do in your case would remove it off the balance and reset it, you can do this with tweezers and a staking tool, be very careful.

I've seen some Seiko hairsprings that have a circular type with corners cut off but never had to adjust them.

Thanks for all the advice. It turns out that it's an adjustable hairspring, with a lever to set the beat.  Should make it a lot easier!
