Which Watch Have You Got Coming In The Mail ? Show Us !!!

Allegedly a hand painted USSR watch (3 actually, and the other two photos are even worse) having what appear to be Raketa 2614N movements. I got the three for the price of a couple of parts movements, and though the seller is purported to be in New York some odd communications give me doubts. Maybe I'll get a few neat custom painted Raketas next week or maybe I'll get something lesser in a month.

Well I am very pleasantly surprised. The 3am communications in imperfect English were not indicative of a ruse. I got 3 watches, all runners, with beautifully hand painted dials. The Statue of Liberty is missing a caseback and is a very thin model, possibly a Luch slim. I'll see if I can find a replacement case but I'm excited about these. The cosmonaut is a total surprise, as it was not visible in photos.

Just won this on eBay for £13.00 including postage.

Not sure what it is as it appears to have the Credor logo but not the name and Seiko Quartz instead?

The photo of the back is such poor quality I can't define anything from it but I bought it more out of intrigue then anything else.

I guess it's a Seiko Galaxy. Not much information here, but this is a great list of Seiko subbrands : https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/seiko-branding-dictionary.209014/ .

I haven't worked on any Seiko, they're just something i have not been interested in , though i do own a few new models including an SKX . But I thought I'd give this a go as my first, I liked the unusual dial. But that crystal  looks like its going to be a real problem to get hold of.

Just bought another Longines (a 1958 30LS). I'm a big fan of older Longines, especially of the '30' series with the big balance. (There's a thread on here where someone wanted an accurate movement and @nickelsilver mentioned the 30 series Longines).  A few months ago I got a 30L (sub second). Spent a while on dynamic timing and got  it running nicely. I wound it each morning and wore it for a week (including two round of golf, which is challenging for any watch). Checked it three times a day and it was never more than 4s out, and after a week it was within 2s.

This is a 30LS, same as 30L but with a sweep second (the only other in the family is the 302, which is a 30L with adjustable stud carrier, and the mythical 30Z,  a movement specifically designed for the Swiss observatory chronometer competitions. If only I could find one).

A bit of a polish and new crystal, and it should look nice.

🤔 the reason I said ' a real problem ' it looks like it's faceted from the side ?

I'd say that someone at some time has fitted the wrong crystal.

Thanks Andy, you might have confirmed what I've been looking at . I found a different model 7006 . 6010 stating a facet crystal, and all the 7120s i looked at look plain.  Hope everything work out ok for you the other night. Screenshot_20241209-131405_eBay.thumb.jpg.a15fec6aaa7df6360a5695eb6750aef0.jpg

The 7006-6010 is a 32mm Crystal.

Be interested to see when you get it if it is faceted or if it's just an optical illusion.

From the side it does look like facets, but from the top it's not visible at all.

It is a faceted crystal so not sure now about the part no. I gave you?

Edit

Double checked and the part no. does appear correct.

Also just realised you can just about make out the facets on the eBay listing.

Thanks for that information Andy, strangely enough Gleaves huge crystal list for what looks like all Seikos has the 7006 7120 model missing.

It is faceted, which is on the inside, but subtle. Needs just the right light and angle to capture all of the facets, which are made up of appropriately 1cm each starting with one in the center. Then the dial has two finishes, the center square is brushed/lacquered violet sunburst, and the outer indices are sat on what looks like an overlaid matt deep sky blue. So with the facets its a nice effect in all. Crystal measures 30mm. Everything functions ok, a new crystal and a sweep second should see it complete.

Still trying to work out if it's silver of gold?

Edit

Realise it must be silver as that's all they did.

Second Hand available from Cousins but depending what you're willing
to pay for the lens you may end up swapping the tension ring.

Thanks Andy for the cousins hand details, everything is silver , hands etc. It really does need to keep the facet crystal, it pulls the dial effect together and will greatly increase the value. If i swap it out for a plain one ,I'll never look for the genuine one, their numbers will only ever reduce and then run the risk of not getting one. This was a cracking buy , shame about the bracelet,  but i think I have more chance of tracking that down than the crystal. Search begins 😄

Did you not see my link above for the one with the Gold Tension Ring?

There are plenty about depending what you're willing to pay.

Hey Andy yes I looked at that thanks and then forgot 🙂. Its a strange glass, you can almost feel the facets from the outside.

Hi everyone!

I have something very special coming in.

A Universal Genève micro-rotor movement from the early 1960s (well, with a watch around it, haha 😅). The movement is only 2.5mm thick and was for decades the second thinnest automatic movement (only surpassed by the Piaget 12P).

Screenshot_20241216_190058_OneDrive.thumb.jpg.b7ced586e18821b51c24ce565f6210e7.jpgScreenshot_20241216_190044_OneDrive.thumb.jpg.26a275ce039035d374f406facbab9e28.jpg

Its movement engineer Gerard Berret, later joined Patek Philippe as the technical director behind the almost identical-looking and famous Patek cal 240 (which powered many references of the Nautilus and Golden Ellipse). Apparently, Universal Genève even sued Patek for patent infringement, but settled out of court.

    • Hello and welcome to the forum.   Enjoy
    • Maybe I'm a bit late to the party, but to me it seems we must finish the work of the brand ourselves. I'm not a Tag hater, I'm wearing one as I'm writing this, but still. Having to tear apart a brand new watch costing thousands, to regulate the movement and properly align the bezel because the brand did neither ? Wow. I might add that your very watch @LazyTimegrapher is the Ti version priced for $4,450.00 as I'm writing this. Losing 10 seconds a day on a brand new four thousands dollars watch is something unfathomable in my book. I've also had my share of issues with Calibre 5 inside a Formula 1. The rotor was spinning hard while winding the crown. This is due to a jammed reverse wheel and only happens with a poorly lubricated movement. After a while, all lubricants inside a movement are gone, but this issue happened while the watch wasn't even four years old. On Calibre 5 or ETA2824/SW200 maintenance is required every 5 years but that's a ballpark and most can usually last much longer than that. I have a 10 years old tissot still running fine on a never overhauled 2836.  So how this could happen on a 3.5 years old watch bought brand new from an A.D ? My theory is that the Calibre 5 inside my F1 watch sat at Tag Heuer in storage for years before being finally installed in my watch. While my timepiece wasn't even 4 y.o at the time of the issue, the movement inside was probably much more older than that, with completely depleted lubricants.  http:// Today on the wrist : WAY101B.BA0746. Quartz ETA F06.111 inside, 94 months battery life. Gears-free but worry-free too, and losing 0 seconds per week.
    • Unfortunate. Which is why I said in my post " so unless they changed the shock settings," and you didn't show a pic of the jewels. I cannot identify that shock spring. I had a look in BestFit, and my usual references, but can't see it.  Anyone?
    • Hello everyone, I hope everyone is doing well.  I have a few vintage watch with fhf 96 st movement but I don't know where to source parts for it since it is rusted. If there was any parts from alternative movement that fits fhf 96 that would be great to know.
    • The photo is looking almost straight down the pivot which is why it looks broken. I think the pivots are actually fine. These are disassembly pics, prior to cleaning. (I'll use cleaner Rodico after cleaning!)
