New Tool (Toy )

Hello all from a new member.

 

So I've just received my new toy / tool....a Wei Shi (sounds a bit like Witschi doesn't it?) Timegrapher  and it promises well. My question is this, apart from the obvious interpretation of the basics, Rate, Amplitude and Beat Error, does anyone have a list of all the other errors which can show up on the graph and their various interpretations, maybe with screen shots?

Welcome to the forum. Just do a search, I believe you'll find lots of information accumulated on timegraphers. I did find a couple of graphs pertaining to the Chronoscope S1, which to all intents and purposes does the same thing and they helped a little, but not much.

 

As Bob said a couple of weeks ago "Just do a search, I believe you'll find lots of information accumulated on timegraphers".

What I have been looking for and what would be great was for a video showing watches on a timegrapher with different issues or some like this -

Fortunately the people in this forum are great, and if I come across anything I am unsure of I'm sure they will offer their experience and help.

To understand timing machines I've attached a link below true it shows a different timing machine but the results the graphical the numbers should all be the same as long as your machine has the same functions. Then the second link explains where some of the numbers come from, more of use if you got really obsessed with things. Then a attached file a PDF of a section of a manual for an ancient paper timing machine. It explains what the graphical displays look like where they come from how to interpret them.

 

Then note interpretation of timing machine waveforms can be the same as interpretation of crystal ball reading. As I've accumulated a few manuals on timing machines you begin the wonder if the people doing the interpretation where perhaps on drugs at the time. So it's not always an exact science of what you're seeing. So don't expect black-and-white answers from the timing machine as the exact diagnostics without physically looking at the watch.

Great stuff John,

when I've a couple of days to spare I'll try to read, learn and inwardly digest it all :geek:.

But as you, so rightly, implied....nothing beats the experience gained by studying the movement itself.

Thanks for the info John, I look forward to reading through when I get the opportunity. I'm new to servicing, and have just got my timegrapher for Christmas. Hopefully over time like Mike said with experience gained, faults will be recognised and remembered against previous repair actions.
