Experience. If this was a top of the range part of the train there pivot holes would be jeweled and the pallets would have pallet stones instead of all steel.

A nice specimen. Not done one for a few years , just lately they have been French clocks the one I am doing now is a brocot escapement on which sone one filed minute wheel cock so that when the movement was tilted forward the hour wheel l dropped forward loosing synchronisation putting the strike all out, why I don’t know but just rebuilt the end to stop it happening.
