lubricating jewels in an ES95 movement

Hi there, 

Forgive me if this is not the correct forum for this question.  I have an old Majestime pocket watch that seems to have wheel jewels that are capped. I can't see the staff pivots through the top of the jewels. Is it possible that these jewels are not to be lubricated? 

I looked at the jewels through a microscope and cannot see any dried oil inside them. I wonder how to clean these types of jewels as well.

Welcome to the forum,enjoy. Lubrication is always an interesting debate amongst horologists. Personally you cannot go far wrong by using the range of MOEBIUS SYNT-HP lubricants.. If you go to Cousins Uk web site you will find all of the range variations explained.

My question might have been a bit vague. I can't see a way of extracting the caps from these jewels to expose the oil wells. I think the caps are staked down, and I think the only way I have to remove the caps is to use a jewling tool and remove the jewels from the main plate. It seems a bit much for a simple case of servicing the movement. The only way I have to lubricate them is to apply the oil through the pivot hole.  A small amount of debris is present in some of the jewel holes. Will an ultrasonic cleaner work to remove this gunk? Has anyone come across a movement like this?

Hi and welcome to the forum.   If the jewels are staled in it’s probably best left alone as trying to remove them may cause damage.  Out the plates through the U/s and re check , might take a couple of passes and then peg out the holes and re clean.

The idea of the little cutouts is that cleaning solution can get in and out. We've all seen jewels though that just won't come clean without a little help from pegwood, including cap jewels. I've had to disassemble these types of settings to get them properly clean, with a jeweling tool.
