You need to dress your driver of proper width, to the proper thickness.    They all tend to get thicker as they get wider, to handle the torque.

I have been using A&F screwdrivers for a few years and only recently purchased some Horotec. However the Horotec I shape the tips (see pic) using their sharper which gives a better grip on most screws. So I now have two sets the A&F & Horotec.

In my option the A&F are really good screwdrivers they just need dressing now & again.

I love the US based vendors like ofrei, and esslinger but do shop around. It has been cheaper for me to order from abroad and have it expedited to the USA. Usually it saves me anywhere from $100-200. Which makes me think our supply houses here are quite inflated with pricing.

Eternaltools.com has some horotec screwdrivers. And they are a wonderful vendor.

As a beginner, so far I'm very happy with Starrett's S-555-7 jewelers screwdriver set.  I like the collets they employ for securing the tips, which are readily available through MSC Industrial Supply.  While they may benefit from a mild dressing here and there, the leverage is good right out of the box and the hexagonal heads prevent them from rolling.  They are sized in inches, but I've yet to be let down by that.

Clockboy, the Horotec Sharpener would be Ideal for dressing up all my screwdrivers...I just might get that tool as well.

Federico, thanks for the link they seem to be of decent price and I really like the sharpener Clockboy mention to keep the blades dressed up.

Wesley881, I've heard of these before are they based in the USA? They seem well constructed.

Thats pretty neat, I think I'm going to save up a little extra and get the Horotec screwdrivers and sharpener so that i wont have to worry about it later. Also Do the Horotec screwdrivers come standard with the T-shaped blades?

Hi madchops67, They are US-based and you can get replacements online from MSC industrial supply. I had to dress one of the tips up so far, but that's part of it. Lots of strength, even on the .025".

They come with standard shaped blades. If my memory serves me well I had to dress them anyway to a normal wedge shape. But later I changed their shape when I purchased the Horotec sharper.

How do you feel for both Horotec and VOH? quality, weight balanced, etc.

I am always know VOH is over-top but I wish to know more about comparing them in term feeling and quality since they look about the same but different so much in pricing. Hope if you could share some of your experience.

Hi Ste, there’s not much difference mate between the VOH & HOROTEC mate, they both have the same feel with good grip, they’ve both got the same blue steel finished blades which are ground to perfection, the only difference between both is the horotec has a different roller bearing in the top which you can just see through the tiny hole in the top & the voh has a small black sleeve at the top! They both twist as smooth as silk, like I said mate I had to buy the 250 horotec driver to make up my set mate, I couldn’t find a voh 250 anywhere mate, so I could say I’ve got the best of both, which there both superb!

There is a vid on youtube about the VOH & the guy purchased one on from eBay but it appears to have been a copy or second. So my advice is purchase from a reputable seller.  I purchased horotec screwdrivers last year & also purchased their sharpner that gives a T shaped head. The VOH also look to be a very good screwdriver as well & their complete boxed set looks to be good value.

I am interested in a stainless steel handle screwdriver set. I oscilate between Bergeon 30081 and Horotec MSA 01.201.

Self lubricating vs ballbearing :)

I also have the Horotec Ministand MSA 01.201-D set of screwdrivers and really love them.

When ever other people in my class see them for the first time they also give them favorable comments.

Since buying the set I have bought 2 more of Hortec's screwdrivers, one size bigger for pocket watches, and one size smaller for the screws on hairspring studs

      Its 4 o'clock in the morning here in the Uk, i cant sleep, i dont sleep, not much ever really. My brain never shuts off to rest, I'm just a constant thinker, i have to be very tired to be able to sleep,  i guess eventually it will be my undoing and my health will suffer because of it I'm sure. But while I'm here i want to get as much out of life as i can, and give as much as i can, to help,maybe to make a difference to someone's life if that is within my capability,recent events have made that need even more clear to me. I'm not sure where I'm going with this or why i bring it up , or if its relevant to want i want to talk about its just in my head right now. What i do want to talk about is something thats been on my mind for ages. I like to be prepared,  I'm not fond of surprises because surprises take control away and i am a bit of a control freak at times. This forum, Our Forum if i can call it that, is here because of two reasons. The guy that created it and keeps it funded and the people that joined it.  Without either, it would not exist, and lets face it one day it won't ( I'm a realist and i talk about things others dont or who are afraid to in other words folk that dont particularly prepare for the inevitable). How many of us visit here regularly ?  How many among us almost depend on the forum as a way of socialising because they are stuck at home and how many of us has it become part of a daily routine to check in and see if they can offer advice or get help with something they are working on or just to have a chat and engage in some banter. The members here are in the thousands and thousands have disappeared over the years many had just a fleeting visit. But there are a good few of us that know each other quite well and visit regularly. I dont know about you but i wouldnt want to lose that communication with you all, in all honesty it has become an important part of that side of my life and helps to feed my passion for all things watches. Some of you may think differently and thats ok, some of may stop and think # what would i do " Without Our Forum " #

      Naptha appears to be a general name and its content can be varied depending upon what it's specific use is. Lighter fluid as an example can be light or heavier also with other ingredients to help it burn. Try sesrching for benzine ( as opposed to benzene which is linked to causing health issues ) . There are other fluids such as ethanol that you could try and also methylated sprirts, mostly ethanol with a small percentage of methanol added. Experiment with any new chemical to see how quickly schellac dissolves in its presence. I have tried a few things but hexane is not one of them, i understand it does evaporate very quickly.  Be sure sure to check out any safety data on chemicals you try. Toxicity of fumes and flash point information, ultrasonic machines can heat up fluids even without a heater function. And of course always ask here for personal opinions when trying a new substance.

      I have that set and really like it. I prefer that crystal holder over the one that came with my Bergeon claw tool and any time I use the claw I use this one instead of the Bergeon one, just an additional bonus with this tool.

      Is the Roamer not a split stem? I'm confused on your how your case is put together. If it is a front loader where is it you are putting the case screws? I love me some Roamer, do you have any photos?
