Miyota 3W 10 movement

Recommended Posts

Good morning,
I received a gold coloured wristwatch for my 21st birthday from my parents. It was of the château brand and it worked well for about 10 years but then when I took it in for a battery change I was told that the movement was defective and could no longer be sourced. It is a Miyota 3W 10 movement and fits inside a very thin square shaped watch face. Today I Trancid my arm with another watch Repair to be told the same thing. Having done a few Internet searches, I see that there are alternative movements available for lots of obsolete stock. Can anyone suggest an alternative movement for my wrist watch?
Thanks in advance

Paul

Welcome to the forum.

Any repairer willing to work on your watch should be able to find an original or alternative.

Depending where the date is on your watch there are still some 3W10s available.

Some alternatives would be GM12 or 1M12.

Edit

Just thought I better point out the the alternatives wouldn't necessarily be a direct
swap as it's more than likely the holes for the dial feet are in different locations.

Another new joiner here. I'm in exactly the same position - My 91yr old father-in-laws favourite watch died, an old Accurist of no financial value. I've rebuilt a couple of mechanical watches, just getting into the hobby, so said I'd take a look despite knowing nothing about quartz movements.

A quick google revealed I needed a 3W10 date @ 3 movement, and ebay showed the GM10 as a suitable replacement. It was only a few £ so I took a punt.

It looks like it will fit but the holes for the dial feet are basically horizontally mirrored from where they should be.

Any advice on the best way to put more holes in for the dial feet (even getting them in the right place looks like a challenge) or failing that, is repairing the original movement even a option? I wouldn't know where to start.

Welcome to the forum.

Repairing the old movement would be an option but you'd need a lot more experience to try,

Now you've got the GM10 the easiest option is to remove the old dial feet and fix new ones.
