Any ideas ?

Recommended Posts

I've been asked to take look at this 24mm dia. watch because it only runs for a few minutes at a time. It's said to be over 50yrs old & my initial assumption is that it's hampered by old oil/dirt. Haven't found any markings except for those on the inside of the hinged back (the crystal is also hinged so it's a bit like a mini pocket watch but with metal loops for a strap). Can't get a very clear picture but there seems to be a "GS" in one 'box' & a "9" in the diamond above the vertical "375". The other 2 symbols seem to be a stylised lower case "d" & a "U".

Also: I can't see how to remove the crown&stem but the small screw nearby pulls it in when turned slightly: I don't want to turn the screw against the slight resistance I can feel in case I shear the head.

Grateful for any help...

The screw you mentioned is to remove the stem but do not loosen it too much or you'll have to strip the dial.

Thank you. Counterintuitively the screw turned counterclockwise (only about 90deg.) to release the stem - the same direction which initially pulled the crown closer. Not sure what you mean by "strip" the dial.
