I think it can work for a while with some loss of power reserve due to the softened steel in the joint area.🤔

It'd never work, the spring is mangled beyond belief, the release of power would be random and inconsistent and the watch rate would be sporadic at best .

I do not think you can even fit the spring in the barrel without breaking it again anyway, this guy is either absolutely clueless or the biggest troll the humanity ever known, I lean towards the first option tbh.

First spring was trashed again after softening the coil next to the broken one with the bloody huge blowtorch. Then miraculously turned into a different spring. Shame the camera didn't pan back so we could see him wearing his top hat and tails and waving a wand. The sexy magician's assistant might have been the only one worth watching here 🤷‍♂️

"miraculously turned into a different spring

Even as a novice I would never have considered such an action acceptable, or to try to con people. Going to continue running.

Not being in the UK and knowing nothing about the school, this sounds to me like the BHI might be a little scorned on this forum? (you don't have to answer)

I am reminded of the saying,

"If you have nothing good to say, then say nothing."

Seems rather apt here.

I did my time with other apprentice fitter and machinists. I have since worked with other fitter and machinists.

How one turns out is directly related to how much one listens, learns and applies oneself.

(from someone considering doing the DLC course via BHI)

One of the perks is how to f**k up mainsprings. 😀

If thats in their curriculum then there is no need for me to study that part, i can expect good marks here.

Very true Michael, i take this stance and have spoken this phrase many times during an argument, its the perfect finisher,  works every time and opens the door for you to leave without saying another word.

I can't agree in this case, someone should of pointed out the total unprofessionalism.

Your mum etc buys a cheap and nasty vase or whatever, oh it's lovely mum.

Someone posting utter s%£t which may influence others, needs correcting.

Where would science/ engineering etc be without people pointing out the mistakes?

    • Apologies for going on about this issue, but I've seen instances in which the boot is not thus "closed" i.e. the top of the pin is not folded over. What determines which of the two pin designs should be used?
    • I once spent HOURS with this...  But for me, it wasn't about the crown position (which I had pulled out as instructed), but that I used a pointy probe to depress the "button". That allowed me to push it down to far and dislodge the keyless works. If one uses a screwdriver that fits the enitre with of the slot (I believe it was the 1.2mm one), you are safe.      Lucky you!
    • The high beat error can be responsible for the balance not starting up by itself.  You should be able to adjust the beat error with the stud carrier here:   When you get the beat error below 1.0,or better to below 0.3, it should start up by itself. If not, you have a different problem.          This may indicate another problem. But first correct the beat error, wind fully (!), and check power reserve again.    Best of luck,  C
    • @carlosdv there is a pdf with the operating instructions further up the thread. It looks to me that you put the crown in the right position for the relevant subdial, hold down the reset or start/stop and adjust with the crown.   Tom
    • Hello Mediatech, yes the back can be opened with a case knife, it is not very hard to take off or put back on. I would also like to ask a question myself. In my case my Polaris is having issues adjusting the chronograph, the subdials do not seem to work. I place the crown in position 2 to try to adjust them and nothing happens, same thing in position 3 for both of them. Otherwise watch works fine, the main hand for the chronograph was adjusted and works well. I consulted an Omega dealer about a service and got quoted 650€, now my question is about the movement. I think the movement is based or is an ETA 251.262. It does not seem to be in production any more and was replaced by the ETA 251.264. Is there any chance a movement swap would be possible? What are your recommendations? Please keep in mind this watch would not be sold and I plan to keep it with me for a long time.
