Titoni Cosmo 99 36000 Vph (Eta 2832)

Recommended Posts

After trolling eBay UK for 36000 bph watches & particularly looking for the titoni cosmo 99 as it has the eta 2832 movement. I was having no luck what so ever. Then I remembered reading in someone's post within this forum about using other eBay countries. So I tried the refine my search & selected other countries. Unfortunately, still no luck. Then I decided as my last effort to try eBay.com & hey presto. I found 2, contacted the seller in India & he was more than happy to ship to the UK. He altered his listing to accommodate this & bam. £109 Inc shipping. Can't wait to receive it & get to work on servicing. 915400b94d7fc98cf7ad985509f8c475.jpg

You'll need moebius 941 for the pallet stones.

Since your interest is specific to the 36,000bph watches, you probably know this already but just in case you don't.............. :thumbsu:

Hi anilv, I'm using moebius 9415 for pallets stones. Is this the same?

9415 is recommended as it is thicker and is reported to stay in place. The concern with 941 is that being lighter it is more likely to be flung of the escape wheel/pallet fork as the escape wheel spins faster.

Personally I don't have this and have used 941 in the past...the reason I brought this up is if you're collecting these 36,000bph watches you should know this.

There was one time I was given a Grand Seiko hi-beat movement to service. When I told the owner I would not be using the correct oil on the pallet-stones he sourced it himself and I used that. He wanted to leave it (the oil not the watch!) with me but that wouldn't have been right. The Seiko was surprising in that it looked like your usual Seiko 6119 but with 21jewels and micro-regulator. He paid the equivalent of a Rolex 6694 at the time... case was pretty scratched-up but at least the gold medallion was still on.

Thanks for the info Anil.  On the subject of Hi-beats looking like run of the mill movements, I've been doing some research on this & it's got me pondering. (This info is from a posting on watchuseek regarding eta  36000bph movements)

Re: ETA 36,000 Hi Beat Movements:

2819 - 36,000 bph version of the 2801

2806 - 36,000 bph version of the 2804

2817 - 36,000 bph version of the 2816 (a day/date 2801)

2839 - 36,000 bph version of the 2821 (dateless automatic)

2826 - 36,000 bph version of the 2824

2837 - 36,000 bph version of the 2836

2838 - 36,000 bph version of the 2834

All hand fitting and dimensions are the same between the 28,800 and 36,000 bph versions.

Further, all parts, except the second wheel (#227), escape wheel (#705), balance assembly (# 721) and hack lever (#9433) are common between the 28,800 and 36,000 bph versions. (Even the mainsprings, a fact borne out by the Bestfit catalog.)

There were a number of movements in that family, including a number of 21,600 bph versions: (most of the repeated calibers for the same functions are different mainplate sizes, 11-1/2''' and 13'''

2800 - 21,600 bph version of the 2801

2802 - 21,600 bph versions of the 2804

2803 - 21,600 bph versions of the 2804, 13'''

2808 - 21,600 bph version of the 2816

2809 - 21,600 bph version of the 2816, 13'''

2820 - 21,600 bph version of the 2821

2822 - 21,600 bph version of the 2824

2823 - 21,600 bph version of the 2824, 13'''

2828 - 21,600 bph version of the 2836

2829 - 21,600 bph version of the 2836, 13'''

2805 - a 28,800 bph date manual (same as 2804, 13''')

2807 - a 28,800 bph date manual (same as 2806, 13''')

2810 - a 28,800 bph day-date manual (same as 2816, differences unk)

2811 - a 28,800 bph day-date manual (same as 2816, 13''')

2812 - a 36,000 bph day-date manual (same as 2817, 13''')

2825 - a 28,8000 bph date automatic (same as 2824, 13''')

2827 - a 36,000 bph date automatic (same as 2826, 13''')

2830 - a 28,800 bph day-date automatic (same as 2836, differences unk)

2831 - a 28,800 bph day-date automatic (same as 2836, 13''')

2832 - a 36,000 bph day-date automatic (same as 2837, differences unk)

I've highlighted the text in red that has got me thinking. Would it be possible to make a hybrid of a 2836 movement running at 36000bph.

To add ... I read online someone had posted a problem with a chronograph running fast...this was traced to an incorrect 2nd wheel from a movement with different frequency. So parts can be interchanged... but you'll create hell for future watchsmiths..!

    • the problem with vintage watches and yes quartz watches can be vintage is availability of parts will be a problem. I have a link below where we can cross reference the coil and  I was hoping for more. Another problem for vintage parts are everyone on the group gets used to ordering from online. Conceivably the physical material houses that still exist out there might have the part and you'd have to reach out to them and see if anyone has one. this is because they don't list every single part that they have online with the exception of cousins where everything they do is online work just doesn't exist but the other material houses can have stuff not listed. Otherwise just set up a search on eBay and sooner or later it will possibly show up if you're lucky.   http://cgi.julesborel.com/cgi-bin/matcgi2?ref=SEK_6020A
    • Hi welcome to the forum.    Enjoy
    • the bestfit book refers to Revue as wittnauer and the fingerprint we have this.
    • Maybe a little off-topic, but it still amazes me that most people (and myself before I got into this hobby) don't realise that the movement of their watch was (in most cases) not made by the name on the dial of the watch. This is especially true of many 'fashion' watches which use the cheapest of cheap movements ($4 each) which are completely out of proportion to the overall cost of the watch ($++100s). Usually the actual manufacturer is stamped somewhere inconspicuous on the movement, usually around the balance, and this is what you need to find so you can locate spare parts or servicing manuals etc. This is like buying a top of the line Rolls Royce Phantom and learning it has a BMW engine..... oh wait a minute, it does! (6.75-liter, 460-horsepower BMW V12 engine - reference)
    • I have an image of what the case is supposed to look like disassembled. then an interesting website https://www.mybulova.com/vintage-bulova-catalogs there's all sorts of interesting things here for anyone in watch repair. but for the particular subject these are the two I recommend. You can see page 7 is where I got the image of the case. Then the word apartment technical manual is really a training manual of watch repair covers wristwatches and pocket watches everybody should have a copy of this.
