I'm Not Big On Smart Watches, But This Thing Is Sexy!

Recommended Posts

I don't actually own a watch that is anything other than mechanical. And, I just can't make myself buy a quartz timepiece. But that's just me! I do own a smart phone and embrace technology as much as the next guy but have never thought of buying a "Smart" watch. Most all the smart watches that have been developed  have been mini versions of smart phones strapped to your wrist...boring!

That may change! This watch is Beautiful!

Here is a quick video....

What do you think? Will you wear one?

No word yet on the price, but I guess it will be HIGH!

This has to be the worlds leading techno gizmo and for the busy, busy, techno man is a must have.  I can find no mention of price, but for a guess it ain't going to be cheap.  I like early American pocket watches but I could also find room for a Moto 360.

I have no use for this but love it. My phone is still steam powered and if i did not need it for work I would not even have a cell phone!

I saw a friends smart watch, I think its called pebble or something, I did like that you could change how the screen looked, he had a Patek dial on it when I saw it  :startle:

I really appreciate the fact that "They" started their design premise with the goal of creating a beautiful watch that accepted the heritage of what watches once were!

I also read some comments about this watch on some of the Techie sites and the reviews are decidedly mixed!? But, these comment are from a demographic that is overwhelmingly Techno-geeks! None of them probably even wear a watch and thinks it's just an impractical accessory in today's technological world.

I'm not sure if Motorola's primary intention was to design a smart watch for people who normally wear time of day watches, but this really strikes a cord with me about how they embraced why this particular device should resemble a real timepiece.. Well done!

At first I thought what a cracking looking watch...........then on further investigation I discover that it is not a watch but some sort of fancy electronic gizmo that should be issued to officers on the Star Ship Enterprise.

Definitely a clever thing; I'm not a Luddite and do like to see technology advancing, but I would not wear this on my wrist..........at any price. As an old time mechanical engineer and amateur horologist, I'll stick to these wonderful miniature mechanical engines for wearing on my wrist. Why........because it makes me feel good and I'm still blown away by the accuracy that they can achieve.

Having said all that, if it floats your boat get one, at the end of the day it only matters what you think!

I absolutely love gadgets, but I am not sure about this. I just don't think so.

I will be interested to see how the whole concept of smart watch will progress. I would imagine Apple will get in on the act soon. http://www.knowyourmobile.com/apple/apple-iwatch/19775/apple-iwatch-release-date-specs-features-design-watch-space

Nothing will beat having a mechanical watch on your wrist IMO.

Edit: Actually I can see that a good application for these watches will be with fitness app's I suppose.

I have one solar quartz watch, one quartz chronograph and one automatic watch - all the rest are mechanical hand-wound. And any others I buy will be mechanical and hand-wound.

There are some wonderfully clever devices around the place - I'm typing this on a very cute mac Book Pro, for example, and not a typewriter - but the movements in mechanical watches are fascinating and beautiful.
