Hello watchfriends, I have a commodoor three start mechanical watch, with a Parrenin 171 movement. The watch runs nice until 23:17 hours. Than the minute and hour hand stop, but the second hand stays running. This problems doesn't occur at 11:17 hours. What could probably cause this problem. Thank you all in advance. Hallo Nucejoe, yes it has a date complication. Is it the date wheel dat stops the motiontrain you think?

Setting the time by hand works fine. Setting the time changes the date at 24:00 hours is oké to. 

I think that I have found the problem. I removed the dayjumperspring and now it runs. Now I have to find out what the problem is with the jumper/spring. Thnx for thinking along.

Hi Gaus

 Yes I think its the load added by date jumper at hrs 23rd that makes canon pinion slip.

You have bypassed  the load by advancing the hands passed hr 24.

I make sure I have the right spring pushing the date jumper, lubricate the jumper mech and the date ring groove,  canon pinion might need a bit of tightening too. 

Worn date ring teeth is also a possibility in which case the ring is slightly pushed to the side.

Hello Nucejoe, thank you very much for your advice. I'll further investigate and  share the results. this seems to be the original spring, but putting it back is a hell of a job 🙂! It take a lot of time and patience!

Hello Nucejoe, I promised to inform you after further investigation. The cannon pinion of the Parrenin consists of two parts (extra gear for friction). The cannon pinion was functioned oké. After lubrication of the jumper mechanism and the date ring groove, the watch runs very nice. So thank you again for your advice.

Hi Gaus, slightly off topic but which model Commodoor is this? I'm looking for a Parrenin 171X movement for a project and there are a couple of different model Commodoor watches on ebay at the moment.

      Hopefully if the issue is running costs, Mark would let us know and suggest ways of raising finance. If it's the other issue, which we are skirting around, sites can be passed onto others.   PS because I know you're all interested, I  had a bacon and mushroom sandwich for breakfast.  Hehe.

      Hi guys, the question is what is a forum, a place for discussion and passing on information, idle chat and a bit of fun and I for one are the richer for it. When in Hospital last year with the Covid being force fed oxygen and feeling total sh1t and close to the pearly gates a daily look on the forum to see what was going down helped to keep me focused on the job in hand took my mind off the problem for a short while but it was a lifeline for sure. We chat to friends for that is what they become around the world read their posts help where we can post information where we can.  I like @Neverenoughwatches some times think of members past and wonder if they are still at the watches or given up, some drop in for advise and drop out again never to be heard of again. The forum reminds me of Yorkshire hospitality, The door is always open and the kettle on the stove. Long may it continue.   My two bobs worth.

      Thanks all.   Movement is a Helvetia 800C. Don't know any history e.g. if the broken mainspring is original. Watch was bought recently as non-working. Really interesting piece that Jon, thanks. I'd only been thinking of length relating to power reserve. I don't have a mainspring winder (yet) so I'd like to avoid winding the spring into the barrel by hand. The old spring measures at 1.60 x .11 x ~290. Sorry, can't be exact on the length. The piece I still have is 275, but the second piece escaped during measurement. Best measurement I had for it was ~13. The micrometer does zero accurately so I'm pretty confident of the .11 Also, I'm getting the barrel ID at 9.5 on a vernier. I'm now wondering about going with a .11 spring? Given all of the above, maybe 1.60 x .11 x 300 x 9? Any thoughts? Cheers.
