Timegrapher Mic - Home Brew

Recommended Posts

There has been a lot of discussion in the past on homebrew timegraphers using that brilliant bit of software Watchoscope, here is my homebrew version of the mic/preamp setup - decided to just copy a commercial mic/preamp, and 3D print the bits, it is not perfect in that a small wrist band will not fit around the enclosure and I really should redesign it, but for now it is working so maybe down the track.

The circuit board slides into a pair of grooves - the piezo element came from an old alarm clock beeper it is around 19-20mm in diam - I glued the head of a small bolt to the bottom of the element and used a nut to secure it to a small Al plate. Silicon rubber tube is used to isolate and locate the complete piezo mic assembly in the end plate - anyone that has looked at a commercial timgrapher mic will see straight away it is much the same. I decided to go with an external power supply - for me at least every time I go to use a device powered by batteries I find they have gone flat. I milled the Al end support but this could have been done with a hacksaw and some careful filing.
