Is It Possible To Put A Eta 2892 Date Wheel On The 2836 By Changing Some Parts To 2824?

Recommended Posts

Hi I tried putting the eta 2892 datewheel on the 2836 but it doesn't work. As the 2836 is much higher. So that lead me wondering, if I change the date driving wheel, jumper spring, date corrector, minute clock bridge to eta 2824 type, will it work? Thanks.

Personally, I've never done that. I believe that being different "families" it shouldn't work but maybe other members know different. I would be interesting to see other opinions.

Cheers,

Yeah. I hope mark or someone could chimp in and help. The three of them are under the same family! They are under the 28xx family. I had success by putting a 2892 date wheel on a 2824 in the past. But now on the 2836 it's a different story. I searched on google and came across a thread from wus(presumably) and there was a guy who asked whether could he put a 2893 dw on 2836 the answer was no. Because the 2836 dw is stepped up by 0.4mm to allow clearance for the day wheel indexing mechanism. No wonder I compared 2836 and 2892, the 2892 is flat unlike the 2836 is thicker. So I was wondering does changing the parts to a eta 2824 and plus removing the unlock yoke plate, unlock yoke spring and unlock yoke will make it work? Or do I need to buy a eta 2824 main plate?? Thanks!

The movements presented in this caliber finder are not for sale. This is only a data sheet for identification and evaluation of the movement calibre, as well as for approximate dating.

So there you have it, different families! No 2892 here. If you search Ranfft, you will find that the 2892 is a "different animal" for this purpose. Of course this is not written in stone and I might be wrong (I welcome corrections) and in the end there might be interchangeable parts here and there but not necessarily what you are looking for.

In any case, I wish you luck with the project and please keep us in the loop!

Cheers,

Bob

Hi number98, like Bob I wish I had an answer for you. Without having two movement in front of me for comparison, I wouldn't even like to hazard a guess. :(

I don't have both movements here to check but I don't think it's possible (from memory).

Thank you Mark, Geo and bob for the reply! I think Im better off buying an eta 2836 black date wheel instead! Because thats a lot of gear to change and it may not guarantee that it will definitely work. The total price of those gear maybe the same price as a date wheel or even more than the date wheel! Btw does the font on the 2836, 2824 and 2892 black date wheel is the same? Thank you!

    • It's pronounced "bombay" like the city.  French for bomb is, 😄, bombe, pronounced the same as in English. Bombé, bombe.
    • That's a really good idea! I have a 3d printer, I think I'll design something that I can clip on to the edge of my desk to do the same. Thanks for the idea.
    • I looked up bombè, domed in French.  It's pronunciation is bomb, does a bomb (explosive device) get It's name from bombè? I know we're going off subject but it's interesting.
    • Okay, I checked with the fine folks at the McCaw Company, and they agree it's the correct crystal, and they have one in stock, so with that sorted time to get onto assembly. Starting by getting the spring into the barrel, which was a bit harrowing. It took me several tries to get it hooked onto my worn old winder arbor, but I did find a new use for the micrometer stand I just purchased. Carefully dabbed some Kluber P125 braking grease to the left of the divots around the barrel, and a little HP1300 on the floor of the barrel before popping it in--in case you haven't seen it, this is a great illustration I found somewhere on this site. You're not the boss of me, Bulova.   2172_Bulova 11AOAC 11AOACD 11AOACB.pdf Bulova_11 AOAC, D, B(1).pdf I got the train back in and it didn't seem as free as I'd like. Looks like the driving wheel with cannon pinion has zero end shake. That could explain the low amplitutde I started with. Now if you were me, would you push on the plate jewel or the bridge jewel? I've attached some extra pictures in case anyone sees something else I'm doing wrong here.
    • I have quite a few watch brands from all over the world. For some reason this Timex electric from 1979 is capturing my attention this week. I am not a particularly fond of battery operated watches or Timex, but this one is different for some reason. Post your watch in your collection that seems to draw you in more now than before...
