My first machined screw

Recommended Posts

It's an M3, to make practice for a comparable, but non-standard size and pitch one that I need for an antique clock restoration. Slowly getting there and then I will tell its full story.

This is what I've used, nothing to do with watch or clockmaking, but for various reasons it was the best purchase for me at this time.

Looks great, did you cut the thread with the lathe, or with a thread cutting die? M3 means M3, with a specific pitch of 0.6mm. Most dies would be M3, but there is MF 3mm with a 0.35mm pitch.

Yes, threading practice, tried some techniques like tool upside down and spindle in reverse, and cutting with compound set at an angle.  BTW here where I live M3 is 0.5 pitch ?
