Movement id (again)

Picked up a tank style watch, mainly due to the nice dial, crystal and case condition (plus the 2 euro price.. :-) )

Found a single (?) jewel pin lever movement inside, with a completely messed up h/s but otherwise reasonably ok looking.

I realize the chances are slim to find parts for something like this but thought I should at least see if I could get an ID on the movement.

Pic’s are attached.

Yeah, now it comes back to me. BFG (Baumgartner) and EB seems to be among the most common suspects when it comes to pin pallet movements.

I’ll start to flip through the many variants on display at Ranfft and we’ll see.

I have been playing with the idea to swap out the movement for something more available. Overall size seems to be regular 10,5 ”’ but then there’s the issue with fitting dial and hands and I don’t like the idea of cutting off the dial pins.

They are fairly crap those movements, but the jewelled ones can be surprisingly alright. I serviced an EB 8800 not that long ago and it ran as accurately as a mediocre lever escapement, ie. very well!

If you substitute the movement then you may need to find another suitably thick one. I guess the stem height may be quite large. And I’m not sure what typical hand hole sizes were.
