Are you sure you're not Harry Potter's long lost brother? ?

That'd be cool, but nah.  It's just a straight tiny little scar.  It was made by the E string, the thinnest and, being highest-pitched, also the tightest.

Lesson: change your strings when they get old.  And if you're going to fool with repairing things under tension, protect yourself and let off the tension first when possible.

Hi Hector,

I'm about to start work on cleaning up a similar case. It looks like I'll need to take some of the finish right back to the wood.

Can you tell me what finish is used in these? It doesn't seem to be a very thick or glossy varnish if any.

Mine also has the darker edges. Is this achieved with dark under paint?

You're asking the wrong person. I know next to nothing about woodworking.

I would never be so brave as to sand down to bare wood, I would take a more conservative approach. I only use wood stains to touch up faded spots, then oil the wood generously and let it soak in a few days. Finally, give it a good buffing with beeswax.

Perhaps it would be better if you started a new thread and post plenty of photos, so members with the right expertise can advise you.

Goodluck!
