Any value here in this bundle? Bulova, etc

Recommended Posts

Spotted a Bulova - not sure of the model but looks similar to a Princine - so probably 1930's. Could make an interesting project as a keeper or flip.

Can anyone see anything else of value. Seller looking for USD$35-40

3 Waltham,  Wittnauer,  Gruen,  Bulova,  Caravelle , 2 mickey mouse - probably none working.

Bulova should be white gold case,  missing bracelet might be an issue

Interested in opinions re brands and values

Regards

BSW

There's was nothing in there that was going to make anyone's fortune, however at $3.47 each everyone of them would qualify for @AndyHull's 404 club.

Personally I would have had no interest in the 4 character watches, which leaves 11 watches of varying quality from the better end of budget to lower mid-range, none of which look like they have been abused. That would still make it less than $4.75 each for 11 project or donor spares watches, which is far from expensive.

Here we go with another possible lot of 15 comprising.

SEIKO

Ruby De Luxe
Olma Sport
Forlis
Movado
Rotary
Bintima
Citizen
Para
Nelson
Unitas
Roamer
Tip Top
Ancre Goupilles
Titan

Anything here worth repairing with a view to keeping or flipping?

I get a watchmaker to sort out most of my purchases. If its just a battery issue, strap or general clean I can do that, but I'm not up to the delicate repairs yet

As before you're not going to make your fortune out of these but their value is in what you get out of them.

If what you want is to learn and practise watchmaking then there's a useful resource here. If you're looking to outsource the repair / restoration work and then still hope to make a profit by selling the results then I would be surprised if you were able to even cover the repair costs with these.

If I were looking for project watches I wouldn't flinch at dropping £60 to £70 on a lot like this, there's some nice pieces in there, but I would be doing the repair work myself and the return would be in the form of the fun and education in doing it.

If you're on the look out for job lots with hidden Rolex's or Patek's just watch the bidding, 'cause if you've spotted them then I can guarantee that others have too.

    • 🤔 leaving the EU meant that UK was no longer part of the convention and have already been turned down an independent reapplication. I'm pretty sure courts have to be held in Switzerland in this case. There will be a lot more watches stashed away in draws  tbh, folk wont be able to afford to maintain them. Cheap watches will be bought and top end watches by folk with plenty of cash that can pay for service and repair. The expensive once in a lifetime gifts and everything else inbetween will be at the forgotton when they stop working.
    • although not in this case.  It was the Lugano Convention and its deficiencies that allowed a Swiss court decision in the first place.  This isnt really a Brexit issue at all.  A decision that affects both the EU and the UK should never have been heard in Switzerland. I bet the authorised service centres in the UK are pretty pleased.  It's a massive shame, though; I believe watch owners should be able to choose to have their watch serviced by whoever they trust.
    • Hi guys I think that old hippy is correct, it opens the gates for china to manufacture aftermarket spare parts. considering that they already do work on behalf of the Swiss I guess this decision gives the a little more legitimacy to tool up and I am sure they will take advantage of the situation either with or without the blessing of the Swiss watch industry  Having read about the protectionist machinations of the Swiss in the history of Europe they were the only ones to get fat at everybody else’s expense. I think the outcome could have been guessed at but ,  fair play to Cousins UK for standing up to them.  Now the question,  will everybody boycott Swiss watches and Swatch, no way they will still fill their coffers.  Me I stick with the Japanese once renowned for cheap shitty watches who came good through industrial effort and don’t for get the Russians that most dismiss as low grade crap. Wouldn’t buy a swatch product ever how about you all.? a
    • Hold the crown when in winding position, move the click away from the crown wheel, and then while holding the crown let it slowly unwind. I recollect that you must remove the automatic device bridge first, but maybe I'm wrong. You can first try without removing the automatic device bridge.
