Source for roller jewels

Recommended Posts

I bought an Elgin 16s movement based on the description and price. It seemed to be another broken balance staff. Though it turned out to be a missing roller jewel. Not a big deal. I ordered a 100 pc variety pack,  some shellac, and a table warmer. The problem lies in the sizes that came in the pack. The largest ones will fall thew the hole in the table, but should fit a 12s or smaller. I'm ok with that, I can use them later, but are not currently of any help. Where is a good spot to find larger jewels? I 'm not interested in $12 ea NIB.

Thank you in advance

the problem is the assortments for American pocket watch roller jewel's haven't been made in a very long time.  if you're lucky and can find one on eBay or somewhere else then you're just lucky.

then ideally you need to have a roller gauge to figure out what size jewel you'd need in the first place.

The gauges that John shows in his picture do turn up on ebay US fairly regularly and aren't too expensive.

Vigor is one brand of them that turns up regulary.

Here is one on ebay now, but you should be able to find one for less than this one.

Get the gauges and then look for NOS roller jewels, don't get the loose ones, looks for ones in little vials with the sizes marked.

then looking at eBay yours assortment and what is that I see in the middle? as they were a must have tool at one time plus they often go unrecognized by any of the new watchmakers they are lurking out there on eBay UNICEF to go looking for them.

conveniently I could not find my roller jewel assortments but looking online I found a picture of something very very close to mine. Specifically sizes of roller jewel's for the various watches to give you a really good starting point of what you're looking for.
