Finding correct size watch jewels

Recommended Posts

ok.  I need larger diamter watch jewels and looks like odd sizes.

I need

21/120, 31/160 at least.

I go on Cousins and they are listed as obsolete and otto frei and jules borel here in the usa dont have them either.

Who else sells watch jewels?  What does one do when they cannot find the correct jewel to fit the pivot??  Wait and watch on ebay?

I do keep a selection of jewels, but sometimes do have to order them.

The last time I ordered, I had to get one size larger for the outer diameter and then broach to fit. Sometimes that can be a good thing as the old hole may not grip tightly enough on the “same” size jewel as the original.

Standard Seitz jewels are sized in 0.01mm hole increments up to 0.20mm, from there they go in 0.02mm increments. In industry makers would order jewels from specialist makers, to whatever size they wanted. In general the outer diameters would correspond to normal 0.10mm increments but the hole sizes could be anything- one common size I see is a 0.25mm hole, which isn't in the Seitz offering. What are your actual pivot sizes? Thankfully, at 0.20mm and up an extra 0.01mm of wiggle room usually doesn't affect performance. Do any of the suppliers have a 22/120 and 32/160?

I simply gave up.  I ordered one size up as you suggested @nickelsilver a while back from jules borel but the powers that be have ruined our USA post office and they havent shown up yet 6 weeks later.  So i put the darn thing back together with loose pivot holes and its working ok.  Its actually running fast.  Ill have to demagnetize and see if that helps.
