Seiko Quartz 4004-8089 Glass repair

Hi,

 

I wanted to share this. I have been struggling with replacing the glass on my Seiko quartz for over a week. The bezel opening is 29.8mm so I ordered a glass of that size, 1.3mm deep. Unfortunately there is a deep recess behind the bezel of around 0.7mm. My plan was to put an o ring in there. I fitted a 0.7mm o ring and pushed the glass in from the front. Anyway, it went in but was too loose and easily came back out. So I did some searching and found this below:

It is now apparent that the glass is supposed to be fitted from the rear of the bezel and a 30mm dia 1.2mm Seiko glass is needed. I managed to remove the retaining ring from the rear of the bezel and have ordered the glass (XMF 300.862, Seiko 300W76GN00) from Cousins with a 0.6mm o ring. Fingers crossed. I will report how it goes from here. Hope this helps someone.

Glass arrived today and has been installed from the inside with a 0.7mm O-ring. Looks great with the polished chamfer around the edge.
