Why does the rate start to rush when I work out?

The Weishi 1900 has two graphical display modes, A and B. For the "Fully wound minus 15 min" pictures I used mode A, and for the "Fully wound minus 24h" pictures I used mode B (longer period). Also, I haven't reduced the resolution of these pictures in case you want to get up close.

Perhaps I should mention that the power reserve for the Vostok 2415/16/31 is specified as "no less than 31 hours". Usually, I get out about 37 hours.

I've been getting similar if not higher rate reductions at around this unwound time in the same two vertical positions. On a unitas 2865 . The same one that you did a walk through on a couple of years back. The army movement.  Mine had the same wear and almost chatter like scuffs under the barrel that yours had. Been meaning to ask you about it, i was thinking that there was a spacer missing under the barrel. Ps. Hope you are feeling better this morning matey.

Down to 38.3 degrees Celsius now. Nothing can stop the watch fever though.

Well, simply to more easily expose how extreme it is. A 30-second gain may not sound much, but 1500 s/d really shows what's going on.

The second Unitas 6325 was one of my biggest challenges (at that time). I had to fix a whole bunch of issues before it got a reasonable amplitude/timekeeping. If you want to follow my struggle you can have a look at the following thread where some of WRT's finest helped me out a lot!

Lol yes. I was guessing from memory what it was. I just finished it last week except for a new crystal and a good leather strap.

Thanks watchie, i will have a good read on that. I managed a good rate of upto 290 at full wind. But 2 of the verticals have a pretty steep drop. Of around 70 degrees. There was no spacer under the barrel of your walkthrough, but it looked like it had been rubbing quite heavily on the mainplate the same as mine had.

Have you checked for wear on the arbour holes of the main plate and train bridge? It’ll give you an excuse to dig out your staking set!

I need to analyze all the images but in the meantime if you're up to it another experiment? I don't suppose you have another running watch? Go for a walk take another watch see what happens. even another watch the same type would be arresting or you take several watches at the same time as long as you get them in the same place more or less.

Yes, sure, once I have recovered. Still struggling with fever.

I don't know if you noticed it or what impact it could have, but the Vostok 24xx calibres have a specified power reserve that is unusually low, just 31 hours. That means that after 24 hours almost 80 per cent of the power reserve has been depleted. Compare with, for example, a Unitas 6497/98 which has a 50-hour power reserve, so less than half the power reserve is depleted after 24 hours. Or compare it with the classic ETA 2824-2 which has a 40-hour power reserve, so only 60 per cent depleted after 24 hours. My guess is that this will have a significant impact on the timekeeping after 24 hours, no?

I didnt notice anything at the time and the watch is all cased up now. But today I've noticed after 5 days  I'm only getting around 20 hours of run time so it looks like it will have to come out again for inspection ☹

Eyup Gert. I'll be doing just that. Starting at the barrel and working towards the escape. Sounds very much like the things i used to do 30 years ago. 🙂

I like your strategy mate! You're always told to go the other way around (start your fault-finding with the escapement), but I'm a firm believer in the closing words of this article: "Good amplitude starts at the mainspring barrel, so scrub and spin that sucker."

I'm of the opinion that so much can be wrong at the release side of the movement plus more complicated and delicate at that end. Assembly starts with the big energy giving components so why not begin fully inspecting and correcting there first. Like a car if it won’t start it ain't gonna move ,or if the engine runs rough then you're not going to be able to drive it very far before it stops.

Haha, John Cleese's walk is all the more funnier with his ridiculously long legs 😅. Still developing mine after 35 years of study, its almost perfectly silly now, it just takes me ages to get anywhere on foot and when I've had a few pints it practically disappears which is one reason I gave up drinking. Next year I'm seriously thinking of visiting our Watchie in Sweden with every intention of going for walks together. His fast paced marching arm swing is going to be a shit for me to keep up with though, every stroll we take is going to be a major workout for me. Mechanical watches will have to be left at his house while we jolly along.  You up for that Watchie ?  😉

For sure, I guess! 😉

The only watches that can take my style of walking somewhat, but not not unaffected, are the perfectly working hi-beaters (ETA 2824-2 28,800 BPH).

When walking my current and most recently serviced watch, a Raketa 2326.H (18,000 BPH) I put it in my back pocket when I take my silly walks in the forest next to where I live. That way, after 40 days of wearing it, it keeps it's average accuracy of +0.3 seconds per day!

    • Unfortunately I'm not that lucky. I started on the train side and after I noticed the binding I pulled everything out except the driving wheel to rule everything else out. It still binds. I'm going to double check that the pinion is fully seated on the staff first, then if no joy I'll push the bridge jewel up a fraction of a mm. Fingers crossed!

    • Thank you for the advise!! It worked. The setting screw was a lock/unlock to remove the rotor. 
    • I have that French tech sheet too, it is a little different than the English one (eg, it doesn't have the auto works diagram). BTW, it looks like you are looking up the case number in the 1979 ABC supplement. The 1974 ABC catalog does have the 3093 case. As you determined it takes the 1222-5 crystal.  When I serviced my President 'A' (which also takes that crystal), I was able to fit a 29.8 crystal from my DPA crystal assortment. Those are, in my opinion, a great deal. The assortment comes with 10 sizes each from 27.8mm to 32.4mm in 0.2 increments. I pretty much use them for any non-armored crystal that takes a high dome crystal. I think they no longer make them but Cousins has still has some in stock but when I bought them they were around $40 for the set and now they are around $100. Still, at 40 cents a crystal it's still a good deal. For the large driving wheel, I remember I once assembled the keyless/motion works first and when I placed the large driving wheel it was interfering with the setting wheel on the dial side as the teeth were not fully meshing and it wouldn't fully seat. If that isn't the issue I got nothing and am looking forward to see how you solve it 🙂
